My goal is to make boring or frustrating subjects interesting and enjoyable. I focus on my students' personal interests, learning style, strengths and skills to build a specific lesson plan for each unique individual. Through fun activities and real world lessons, you or your child will make progress and build confidence. I have 18 years of experience working one on one with K-12 students who have special needs (LD, EBD, ADHD, ASD) and 7 years of experience teaching adults. Whether for Reading, Math, English, Study Skills, or Language Arts, your first step toward a better future is to simply send me an e-mail!
The ACT English test contains questions that test your vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation knowledge. The questions can be very tricky, and multiple choice answers can be similar to each other. I can teach you different methods that will help you recognize correct answers.
Attention to detail and making inferences are very important on the ACT reading test. I can help you learn how to look for the information in the reading passages that will help you correctly answer the questions that follow. I can help you prepare for the ACT before the first time you take it, or help you improve your score before you take it again.
I have experience as a special education paraprofessional, and both of my children were diagnosed with ADD. My sessions with active kids are fast paced and include several different activities. I can also help your child with organization skills, and tutor many different subjects.
I actually enjoy teaching and doing math at all levels. Finding solutions to algebraic equations can be fun! If Algebra is not your "thing" and your student needs some help, I may be part of your solution. One year, I tutored a high school student who began by learning multiplication facts. She finished by passing Algebra and graduated with her class!*
* RESULTS NOT TYPICAL!
I have over 25 years of experience with close family members who have Asperger's Syndrome. As a Program Specialist, I was a companion for a young man diagnosed with PDDNOS. I understand the communication difficulties that "Aspies" have. I understand triggers and passions (aka obsessions). I have experience working with special ed. students in an elementary setting as well as private tutoring. Having a tutor who understands your child's needs and behaviors is best. I would love to be part of your team!
I understand sensory overload and melt down triggers. With students who have autism, I find it very beneficial to get acquainted and feel comfortable with each other before doing the work. I use visual aids, music and tactile stimulation as much as possible. I do not tutor non-verbal students.
I am an excellent phonics and reading tutor. I have experience the Wilson method, which is a great phonics program for persons who have dyslexia. Early intervention is crucial for future success. My students are most successful when they have 3 or more sessions per week.
I love elementary students! I have worked in both private and public schools, mostly with K-5th graders. I enjoy getting to know my students personally as each one is special in his or her own way. Your child might be interested in soccer, or making jewelry, or fascinated with the solar system. Together, we can use hobbies and interests to make learning fun. I also use many games that help improve math and reading skills. We start at your child's level and build on what s/he already knows. I move forward at your child's pace, when we both feel confident that important concepts are understood. I've helped many kids who have special needs, so if you are a frustrated homework helper, I'd be happy to support you & your child! We can celebrate together when your student meets learning goals.
I have always liked math, and I enjoy teaching students who struggle with it. I begin at your student's level of mastery and build on that foundation; raising his or her level of confidence and self-esteem in the process. We will use manipulatives, games and music to help your student understand HOW to find an answer by using the clues that are given. All of my past students improved their math grades and test scores. My tutoring made the difference between passing and failing for a 3rd grader and helped a high school student advance from 3rd grade level math to Algebra I.
As adults, we use the scientific method without even realizing it. It is important for young students to learn to ask questions, form a theory, observe, gather and record data to prove or disprove a hypothesis. The same method used in writing research papers in the upper grades. When your student gets personally involved in hands-on activities, the learning will "stick" better. I am happy to recreate science experiments and use outside sources to increase your child's interest and success in Science.
I can help you learn English grammar, parts of speech, sentence structure, paragraph writing, speaking and spelling. Although I am not certified as an ESL teacher, I do have experience teaching English to a young Russian immigrant in the US and several adults in France.
I would more than happy to help you reach your goal. I have been a private tutor for 2.5 years and I have 6 years of prior experience teaching adults. I am a current online student with experience in reading for information and writing research papers. I work with grammar, spelling, and organized writing on a daily basis. I truly enjoy teaching math and know you can make progress quickest when you have a private tutor. I am a friendly, dependable person with a sense of humor and a flexible schedule to accommodate your needs.
I had my first Geometry class in 10th grade...Now it begins in Kindergarten! I enjoy teaching and doing math...especially with pictures and shapes. If your child needs help finding the perimeter, area, or volume of a polygon, and you are not into this subject, I can provide the support you need.
Proper grammar is important for gaining respect and sounding professional, especially in a job interview or trying to get a promotion. It is also necessary for writing assignments in high school and college. Whether you want to write or speak the English language better, I can help you make sense of word choice, verb agreement, and tense agreement. The best time to start working on it is now, and the best place to start is right where you are.
I offer lessons on essay writing for the GRE. Staring at a blank paper when you have to write a response can be paralyzing. I can help you organize your thoughts, produce a main idea, and write a brief outline before you begin writing sentences and paragraphs. No matter what the essay question or topic is, the end result will be a smooth, logical response. Excellent grammar, punctuation, and writing will increase your GRE score. Your improved writing skills will continue to be valuable in your future written communications.
I have 6 years of experience as a Nutrition Educator for the University of Wisconsin Extension. I also have training and experience with a nationally known weight management program. I can help you with your nutrition-related studies or students in a nutrition program.
I love to read, and I love to teach. I was a reading volunteer for two years at a private school that used a phonics curriculum. I have over 3 years experience as a student support paraprofessional and helped many students with reading during that time. I worked with my own son daily at home per his Kindergarten teacher's recommendation. He was a late reader, but success did come! I would be happy to help your child learn to translate the printed page into language.
Pre-algebra that was once taught in middle school, is now part of elementary Math curriculum! If you can't remember enough to help your child with homework, or just don't like math, I would be happy to help! I don't have to pretend that I enjoy teaching math, because I really do! I use manipulatives, games and music to review basic concepts as needed, and will ensure that your child understands and completes daily homework.
Whether you are writing a book report in 6th grade, an essay for your high school English class, or a business proposal, proofreading skills are essential for success. Although our computers catch most spelling and grammar mistakes, they offer no help for smooth, organized writing that will put you at the top. Proofreading is about accuracy and making your writing "sound" excellent. If your goal is excellence, I have an app for that!
Psychology is a fascinating subject! I would love to help you write a paper or study for your class. I have had more college level psych courses than I can list here. I have experience with people who have neurological differences and mental illness, and can help you understand brain development in infants, children or adolescents. Contact me if you want to learn more about human behavior and how our brains work!
In my first visit, I do an informal assessment of your child's reading by asking them to show me their reading skills. From there, we determine what may have been missed in the past, or what areas need to be strengthened. Most of my students benefit from reviewing letter sounds (phonics). I use lots of picture books, games, cards, and a little music to tutor reading students.
The reading portion of the SAT contains sentence completion, reading comprehension, grammar rules, and an essay. I can help you improve your vocabulary and grammar. I will show you how to find the main idea and details in a passage. I can also teach you how to write a high-scoring essay.
I have completed three college-level writing and composition courses. I also have several years of experience tutoring English, grammar, punctuation, and parts of speech. I can help you improve your writing skills and be prepared for the SAT.
Before budget cuts in education, I was a Special Education Student Support Paraprofessional in Minnesota. I have experience working with K-5 students who have EBD, ASD, LD, SLD, ADHD and PDDNOS. I am familiar with IEPs and will be happy to adapt a plan to fit your child's needs. I have also worked 5 years as a Program Specialist for adults who have cognitive limitations. Coaching Special Olympic Bowling and going to the annual state competition was a highlight for me. As a parent of adult special needs kids, I understand that YOU need more support. I also know how important it is for parents to receive frequent feedback from teachers. I look forward to tutoring your child and giving you the support you need and deserve.
As a student support paraprofessional and tutor, I have assisted many students with reviewing vocabulary and subject content in Science, Social Studies, and Math. I teach students how to find important information in their text books, organize it, and suggest tricks for memorization. Often times, I explain a difficult concept with an analogy and I see the light turn on. Seeing a confused facial expression change to a smile and nod makes teaching a rewarding job!
I work with students to make up funny stories that help them learn parts of speech and improve vocabulary. We may use a thesaurus, dictionary, and word games to increase knowledge of synonyms and antonyms. No matter what age you are, if you want to improve your English vocabulary and have some fun at the same time, I am happy to help you!
I have nearly 4 years of experience of writing at the college level. Having successfully completed 3 college level courses in writing composition and one in research, I am able to help you or your child write research papers, essays or book reports in an organized, grammatically correct fashion.

Outstanding tutor. — Judy was great!!! She helped our son who was in 6th grade and was at a 4th grade math level. She gave him the confidence he needed to start realizing that he can do the work. She brought his math skills way up and gave him the encouragement he needed. We were very sad when she had to leave. I would definitely recommend Judy. ...
