Reading & Writing Tutoring and Study Skills Coaching

Every child is gifted and exceptional and deserves to feel confident at school.

I am passionate about being a part of children finding those gifts, skills, talents, abilities and confidence.

Sessions are focused on your child experiencing success by exploring strategies of organizing, learning, and remembering, which results in your child discovering meaningful and useful ways to learn.

My approach is using varied, proven, and engaging strategies and activities, including, but not limited to material your child chooses, Brain Gym activities, Balance-Auditory-Visual exercises, SOAR study skills, Notebooking, reader's and writer's notebooks, reader's theater, the use of questions to allow your child to find his or her personal process and system of learning; creating a unique and individualized program with your child, changing and growing as we work together.

I have a masters degree and 25 years of experience working with children in various capacities; my love of reading and writing has guided me to specializing in these areas of learning as a tutor and study skills coach.
I believe in clear focus but also having lots of fun with children; knowing that learning erupts within movement and the creative process. Learning is experiential.

Phonics

Both of my degrees from college were in Speech Pathology, which means I was trained to be a speech therapist. I learned about the development of speech sounds and how sounds are blended together to make words.

All people have strategies to remember things, although most people probably couldn't tell you what their strategies are. Working on improving your study skills is a fun process of becoming aware of how you do organize and remember some things and then finding ways to do that more easily, more effectively, and more efficiently.
