Hi, my name is Gary and I am looking forward to becoming a Russian tutor with Wyzant. My background is a BA degree in Slavic Languages & literature from the University of Colorado at Boulder and two years work toward my MA. I have two years teaching experience at the high school level in Adams County, Co. and in 1992 visited Russia and Ukraine with a group of exchange students and teachers. I also have a Russian pen pal who lives in the city of Kaluga, southwest of Moscow. In 1997 I participated in the Denver Summit of The Eight when Denver hosted visiting leaders from around the world. I got the chance to meet both Mdme.Yeltsin and Prime Minister Primakov. In 2003 I was granted a top secret security clearance by the US Department of State to work at the US embassy in Moscow. An illness in the family prevented me from going. In October 1996, I worked with the USMC Special Forces in West Virginia with a group of other linguists to help them prepare to be deployed overseas. I also have studied several other languages: German, Chinese, Ukrainian and Spanish. I have also done translation work from Russian to English for pay and have tutored Russians wanting to learn English.
