My education, tutoring experience, and understanding of what it's like to be a student make me a great candidate for tutoring opportunities in my areas of expertise. I am also a patient, flexible, and creative person who truly values learning and understands that every individual responds to different methods of tutoring.
My education and tutoring experience are as follows:
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Spanish in December of 2006, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. I then graduated with a Masters in English in May of 2008, having earned a 4.0 GPA, as well.
To both accelerate and refine my Spanish proficiency, I chose to spend a semester of study in Spain. Additionally, I worked as a tutor and office assistant for the Spanish department at my university. In this position, I worked with beginning, intermediate, and advanced students on vocabulary, written and oral communication, and verb conjugation.
As both an undergraduate and graduate English student, I refined my writing, editing, and reading comprehension skills through extensive academic, professional, and creative writing courses. I was a graduate assistant in the university's Writing Center, a campus resource for students seeking assistance with writing. I worked one-on-one with native and non-native English speakers on content-related skills and developing editing skills using a variety of approaches. I also took a course on teaching composition that required me to observe a composition course for several weeks and to actually teach the course for 4 weeks. Through this experience, I was exposed to different approaches to teaching composition and learned basic lesson planning concepts and strategies that help me organize and plan for various tutoring arrangements.
I am confident in my ability to work with a wide range of people and learning styles and hope I can be of assistance to you.
