Hi,

I am a professionally licensed Colorado secondary social studies teacher since 2001. Before that, I tutored college students while I was in college myself.

My passion is helping students reach their full potential, and there is no better way to do that than through one-on-one tutoring. With 80 credit hours after my MA degree in Geography from the University of Denver, I am a lifelong learner who wants to pass that interest on to others.

My professional evaluations always emphasized the rapport and excellent relationships that I built with students of all ages.

I can help you in most subjects and I do tutor in a variety of areas, but my emphasis and specialty is on ACT preparation in all 4 subject areas for high school juniors and seniors having proctored the test for 8 years and knowing the tricks to the test extensively.

After 12 years of teaching I have moved on to a new career in real estate where I am self-employed. Therefore, my schedule is very flexible. I look forward to helping you achieve success in whatever areas you need!

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

As a certified teacher for the past 12 years in Colorado, I have differentiated for numerous special needs students in the classroom. From Asperger's to ADD to students on IEP's and 504's (sorry for the education lingo -- but these are adaptations from the regular curriculum), I typically have about 10-15 special needs students a semester. When I taught middle school, the number of students was much higher. Working with these kids one-on-one has a profound effect and I have the patience to walk them through lessons multiple times if necessary.

Algebra 1

As a student, I was advanced in math from the 2nd grade. I am a certified social studies teacher since 2001, but math has always been a strength -- especially algebra. I have helped numerous students through the years with math because it is a strong subject for me and they felt I could explain things a different way than a math teacher could. Algebra is mostly about manipulating basic math -- so if you have a good grasp with that, taking the next step is rather easy.

American History

I am a certified secondary social studies teacher for grades 6-12 since 2001. I have taught both 8th grade (up through the Civil War)and 10th grade US History (1877-present) and am very familiar with Colorado state social studies standards and the curriculum.

One-on-one help is effective no matter the age of the child, and I have a lot of experience because of my background. I also have an elementary school-age child myself, so am familiar with interacting with this age group.

Geometry

I was advanced in math throughout school mostly by learning the simple tricks and having a good grasp on basic math. Geometry is mostly about using these basic math skills in formulas and interpreting angles. If you work on knowing the formulas and remember things about degrees (for example 180 in a triangle, 360 in a rectangle), then understanding geometry is a lot easier. I will be happy to help in this area.
