My name is Andy, and I'm a graduate student studying biophysics at UCCS. I have experience tutoring algebra, pre-calculus, calculus, general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics (algebra and calculus based), GMAT and MCAT preparation.
I scored a 1460 (out of 1600) on the SAT, a 750 on the GMAT, and a 36 on the MCAT, so if you need help preparing for a college, MBA, or medical school admissions exam, I'm the guy for the job. I enjoy teaching, and I'm passionate about doing it well. If you need difficult science or math concepts explained to you in a simple, straightforward manner, please contact me. Fantastic tutor. My son needed help in Calculus II and Andrew has done a great job helping my son better understand some rather difficult concepts. Andrew is patient and has a passion for teaching. My son is a junior in high school and looks forward to his sessions with Andrew, plus he knows with Andrew's help he will be better prepared for his exams. High marks for Andrew, heart for tutoring tough subjects.
I really liked how he tutored my daughter on her AP Chemistry. He is very patient and is able to break concepts step by step so the student can have a better understanding on the material. I will definitely be working with him again to make sure my daughter achieve her goals.
My daughter had tried several math tutors. All of them possess good subject knowledge. However, Andrew B was the only tutor who was able to create a learning experience that made Pre Calculus 2 meaningful and interesting to my daughter. We have several math tutors available close to where we live and yet we make it a point to travel long distance each week just to meet with Andrew and each lesson has been very productive!
I noticed a huge difference between a previous tutor and Andrew. Andrew would come prepared to teach me and answer any questions I had. He is very professional, on time, and has a reasonable rate. I would definitely recommend him to anyone who is looking for a great tutor!
Andrew has greatly helped me in calculus physics. I hadn't taken calculus in several years and had only taken algebra-based physics in the past, but Andrew is very patient and works with me step-by-step through any questions I have. He is also able to breakdown confusing concepts in order for me to better understand them, and how to apply it to homework and exam questions. I am doing better this semester then I was last semester in the algebra-based physics! Definitely the best tutor I have worked with.
Andrew is always on time, and makes sure my daughter understands every detail! I would highly recommend him. Since he started tutoring my daughter her grades and attitude about school have improved greatly.
Andrew was a joy to work with. We were doing College level chemistry and he really does know his stuff. If he had just a slight question he would look it up and know the answer within min! I really liked him and will be using him again to get ready for midterms! I would highly recommend him!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Limits and differentiation, integration, the fundamental theorem of calculus, Taylor and MacLaurin series, parametric curves, vector functions, partial differentiation, multiple integrals; if there is something that you are struggling to understand in calculus, I can help. This subject has a reputation for being difficult, but it can all make sense if it's explained the right way.
I have tutored both first and second semester general chemistry multiple times. I scored in the 99th percentile on the American Chemical Society's general chemistry comprehensive exam, and I can help you or your student attain the same level of competence in the subject. I explain general chemistry concepts in a way that makes the concepts seem coherent and self-reinforcing, minimizing the need to memorize.
I took the MCAT in January 2013, and I received a score of 36 (13 Physical Sciences, 12 Verbal Reasoning, 11 Biological Sciences). I have tutored MCAT prep before, and I am especially strong at teaching physics, general chemistry, and organic chemistry. The questions that appear on the MCAT are different than those that commonly appear in undergraduate courses, but I know the kinds of material and questions that the MCAT focuses on.
I have tutored organic chemistry for many students, both on its own and as part of the curriculum for the MCAT. I am skilled at explaining the concepts and mechanisms in terms of electron transfer, so that students can reason through reactions even if they have not memorized them. I can help with stereochemistry, nomenclature, reactions, mechanisms, synthesis, IR spectroscopy, HNMR and CNMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and anything else covered in a standard two semester undergraduate organic chemistry sequence.
Physics is one of my favorite subjects to tutor. I have helped students with algebra and calculus based physics for several semesters now, and I would be delighted to help you or your student learn my step by step strategies for solving problems in kinematics, mechanics, energy, rotation, momentum, electricity, magnetism, circuits, optics, waves, or whatever your specialized physics needs may be.
