Languages are my specialty but I enjoy tutoring most areas from kindergarten through high school subject levels.

I earned my Bachelors from University of Northern Colorado in German with an Emphasis in Secondary Education, a minor in English and certification to teach English as a Second Language. I am licensed to teach K-12. My junior year I studied abroad in Germany and locked in my fluency skills. I still regularly skype and visit friends from there.

After college, I taught German levels I-IV for 5 years and created as often as possible an interactive, immersive environments through card games, board games, reading stories, watching German movies etc. I use a plethora of mnemonic devices, aka memory hooks, to help students understand grammar concepts and various manipulatives to help them organize their thoughts and demonstrate their understanding.

Teaching is in my blood! I love seeing students grow and discover new concepts. Working with students one-on-one or in small groups is my forte. I have high expectations of students and I believe that with a good tutor/student relationship great improvements can be made in student's academic career. Tutors are guides. I will not do the work for a student; hard work and good communication pay off.

I am also qualified to tutor high school English and have extensive background in Biology. Additional areas of expertise include ACT/SAT Prep, Basic Math through Algebra, Writing and Reading.

Areas I do not hold expertise in are Chemistry and Calculus.

Please inquire regarding other subject areas. I will honest about my level of mastery. I am willing to tutor on the weekends, summer breaks as well as before or after school.

Learning can be fun and rewarding. That is what I hope to pass on to you, your son or daughter!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Speech

During high school I was in Lincoln/Douglas debate and also did very well in speech class earning high honors.

Presently I teach financial education both to adults and teenagers in classroom (weekly) and individual (daily) settings. Coworkers give feedback and I have been commended for my strong oration skills.

Additionally, teaching a foreign language has pushed to make sure facial expressions, hand gestures, props etc are used appropriately and clearly.

I love to give feedback and help people feel confident in front of a crowd!

Study Skills

Teaching for over 5 years, tutoring students in math and reading and having to manage a lesson plans for three different levels of German each semester taught just a bit about study skills.

While in college, I was a resident assistant managing my time and planning out my study time appropriately. I also tutored elementary and high school students in reading comprehension skills, organizational and study skills. During my underclassmen years I also worked in the university career center helping students complete resumes, job applications and mock interviews.

I lead by example and my track record shows it. I earned a 3.8 college GPA and had straight As in high school. However, I know that each students learns and can organize a little different the key is figuring out what works for that person and sticking to it.
