Greetings!

The most critical aspect of learning is finding and nurturing a true passion for the material as it relates to goals and interests. This will vary from person to person, but I believe that we all have an inner desire to learn and grow.

My training style is demanding, fair, and fun. I ask for three things when working together: 1) Positive attitude 2) Good posture / body language and 3) Intensity. We should get in, get done what we need to do, and get out.

My Training Experience: trained with students age 7-73, experience training ADD / ADHD / Asperger's, Traumatic Brain Injury / Post-concussion Syndrome, Car accident / horse riding / sports-related head injury therapy.

I can help with basic short and long term memory improvement, face / name recognition + retention, retaining large data sets.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I earned my Master's Degree in Education from Southwest Minnesota State (2005). In the graduate program we placed special emphasis ADD / ADHD.

More recently, I have gained over five years' experience working directly with ADD / ADHD students in a one-on-one tutoring environment (2007 through 2011).

Bodybuilding

In graduate school I worked as a strength and conditioning coach for three years. I used a training philosophy built around training intensity, progressive overload, interval training, periodization, and recovery allowance to generate excellent average strength gains among over 100 collegiate athletes. I understand the importance of diet, nutrition, and supplementation within the area of bodybuilding.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have a Master's Degree in Education from Southwest Minnesota State University and have tutored K-6 in math, reading, and cognitive development for over 5 years.

Fitness

I was a strength and conditioning co-coordinator at St. Cloud State University for two years while serving as a graduate assistant football coach. I have applied the principles of periodization, progressive overload, recovery allowance and other fitness essentials. I know how to calculate target heart rate zone and am able to perform CPR.

Martial Arts

I trained at the American Black Belt Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As a blue belt, I have experience on beginner and mid-level striking, self-defense, and kata. I can help with fundamental drills and conditioning exercises, as well as sparring.

Nutrition

I have three years' experience working as a sales associate and manager at General Nutrition Center. I gained a great deal of experience working with nutritional balance, supplementation, and weight loss. To become a manager you must complete learning modules for a wide variety of supplements and I was able to do so.

Study Skills

Over the past seven years I have trained many students in development of study skills. This centers on organization and attention skills, with additional emphasis on avoiding distractions and developing a successful routine. By fostering a love of learning and a competitive mindset, students regularly were able to improve study skills and in turn, academic performance. I also have a Master's Degree in Education.

Tennis

I served as Head Men's Tennis Coach at Upper Iowa University in 2001 and am able to teach the fundamental rules, strategies, and techniques involved in singles and doubles tennis.

Including, but not limited to, basic drills ranging from how to grip the racket and how to score a match; to more advanced techniques like court positioning, serve and return of serve, the proper conditioning drills, and the best equipment to advance skills as a competitive tennis player.

The Lost Art of Goal Setting Growing up I had at least fifty teachers or coaches go over goal setting with me. It was boring and I never did what they said to do. Looking back, that was stupid. Study Effectively So You Don't Have To Study As Long You have three options: 1) Don't study at all. 2) Study in a half-engaged manner. 3) Or study SMART. One will get you in big trouble. How Is Your Posture Doing Today? I love asking students this question. They immediately do a self-check and see that they are spreading negative posture and body language vibes across the room. They know better. They know better because they have been taught how important this is. Posture and body language effect how you perform. They effect how people THINK you are performing.
