Algebra 1

As a math teacher for the past 5 years, I have helped to clear up student difficulties in Algebra 1 concepts including: factoring and manipulating variables, solving linear equations and quadratic equations, and understanding and graphing functions.

I worked as an engineer for 10 years and have many examples of real world applications of Algebra 1 concepts.

Algebra 2

As a math teacher for the past 5 years, I have worked with over 100 students to improve their understanding of algebra 2 concepts. These concepts include the graphing of functions, solving systems of equations, factoring and multiplying polynomials, understanding powers and roots, and introducing complex numbers and quadratic equations. I have many examples of real-world applications of these ideas from my 10 years as a mechanical engineer.

Calculus

As a math tutor since 2006, I've worked with several high school and college students with their understanding of calculus. Concepts include limits, continuity, basic differentiation, implicit differentiation, maxima and minima, and related rates. This leads to understanding definite integrals and various methods of integration for finding the area between curves and volumes of solid revolutions. Other applications include parametric functions, polar curves, and infinite series.

English

I have been a writer for 8 years and an English teacher for 5 years. I have taught over 100 students in all aspects of English including grammar and punctuation, essay and creative writing, vocabulary, and logic in writing.

GED

I was a teacher and tutor with a leading test preparation company for three years. I have abundant understanding of the GED and proven strategies for each section including the essay. I will provide study materials at no extra cost

Geometry

As a math teacher for the past 5 years, I have worked with hundreds of students on improving their knowledge of the properties of space, including points, lines, curves, planes, and surfaces - the fundamentals of geometry. I used these skills extensively in my 10 years as a mechanical engineer and have many examples of real-world applications of these concepts.

Grammar

In my three years as a teacher with a leading test preparation company, I was well trained in all aspects of English grammar including punctuation, sentence structure, proper verb tense, appropriate pronoun usage, and common idiomatic expressions. I have coached hundreds of students on improving their grammar knowledge and skills.

GRE

As a teacher and tutor with a leading test prep company for 3 years, I worked with many students on all aspects of the GRE. I am also current with the latest revisions to the GRE, and I will provide students with specific GRE study materials at no extra charge.

Precalculus

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
