I am a Chilean American senior woman who has been a permanent resident in the USA for the last decade. With a former career in Agriculture, I lived, studied, and worked before in Chile until 1973, in México (1974-1999), in the USA (1969-1971), and the UK (1989). My agriculture career was mainly as a university professor teaching and doing research in vegetable crops and plant genetic resources. I also taught English in Mexican private and public organizations (1989-1999), deciding to focus in the future in a second career on education.
I came to live in the USA because of family reasons, first in Miami (1999-2001) and then in Colorado Springs (2001-present). Here I have been a bilingual volunteer for School District 11 and supported myself doing housekeeping while studying in 2004-2010. I took 27 credits at PPCC in 2004-2006 for updating my education. In 2006-2008 I studied Elementary Education getting a MAED degree at the University of Phoenix Online. In 2008-2010 I did another master's degree for Curriculum and Instruction-bilingual at the same university. I consider myself a dedicated educator, now focused on bilingual English-Spanish matters. I am an easy-going person, who loves learning-teaching, reading, music, and riding my bicycle. My favorite approach to learning-teaching is cooperative and communicative. I have learned a lot from my children, grandchildren, and students.
I have a master's degree in elementary education, with field experience of 200 hours of class observation/participation and 3-month full-time teaching 4th grade at Stratton Elementary School. I passed the Colorado State Exam for elementary Teachers (Place), and I am in the process of getting the Colorado state certification for that.
I am a native Spanish speaker with a bachelor (BS) degree from Chile. I've got a master's degree of science (MS) from Cornell University and education from the University of Phoenix Online, passing all the required English courses and tests for those degrees. I also taught ESL for 10 years in Mexico (55 courses)at the basic, intermediate and advanced levels, in Mexican private and public organizations. I got a MA degree for curriculum and instruction in ESL in 2010 (UOP Online).
