My entire career has focused on communication. In my undergraduate studies, I focused on the arts--theatre, speech, English composition, music composition, studio art, dance, etc.--so that I could learn the different ways people had been communicating for millennia. In my graduate work, I focused on mass communications (television, radio, and film) so that I could learn to match the medium to the message.
Out in the work world, I soon found myself running companies! I did, however, remember to go back and learn sales. I determined that really good salesmanship encompasses excellent communications and helps people define and procure what they want.
As I interacted with buyers, I began to understand how companies erred in bringing products to market. I learned everything I could about new product creation and development, product distribution, target demographics, branding, advertising, sales promotion, and the discipline that was at the root of all of them: strategic marketing. I eventually wearied of finding myself in situations that had been caused by the strategic errors of others, so I began my own company. I have, to date, helped more than 200 companies start, grow, expand, or revamp. I work with companies in the areas of Strategic Marketing, New Business and New Product Creation and Development, Information Technology and Telecommunications, Publishing in All Media, Process Design and Development, and Project Management. Within the Publishing Group of my company, I have taught and mentored authors--and would-be authors--write books that their intended audiences want to read.
At present, I am developing a new enterprise that is occupying about 50-60% of my time. I have decided that now would be an excellent time for me to "give back" to society by helping a new generation of students learn to process information intelligently and creatively.
I have taught classes in personal development, workshops for entrepreneurs, courses in professional salesmanship, and playwriting for elementary-school students. I most enjoy working one-on-one, so that I can adjust my style of communication to meet the learning style of my student.
There are a number of subject areas in which I am qualified to teach and mentor, only some of which were listed on the form I completed. (As an example, I know a great deal about natural health and could coach someone about nutritious food purchasing and cooking, supplements, working around food allergies, living better despite chronic health problems, etc.) If you don't see your area of interest listed, please inquire anyway.
I sincerely hope I will have the opportunity to work with you. Thank you for your interest.
