When a person seeks a tutor, many things are thought about. Can this teacher really help me? He's going to know my weaknesses, is he compassionate and reassuring? Will he instill confidence? Will he be easy to talk to? How much does it cost? Will he follow up with me to make sure I'm moving forward?
The first thing students notice about Professor, Physician, Artist, and Businessman, Dr. Charles C., is that all of these questions are laid to rest immediately, and the student is comfortable and already learning. With over thirty years of teaching experience, Dr. C. retired from traditional private medical practice in 2004. Upon arriving back home in Colorado, he re-opened The Searchlight Photography and Illustration Studios which first opened in 1978 but were closed when he entered medical residency and the full time practice of medicine. More importantly, however, when his physician friends in the military learned of his retirement and asked for his help, he responded immediately and joined the Civilian Medical Corps, practicing and teaching at the United States Air Force Academy with the Tenth Medical Group.
At The Academy, Dr. Charles C. took care of military personnel returning from Iraq and Afghanistan as well as teaching in The Academy's Department of Medicine.
The Air Force found The Doctor's work to be exceptional, and as a result, he was asked to help with the U.S. Space Command and the NASA Astronaut Corps stationed at Schriever Air Force Base in addition to his duties at The Academy. For his contribution, he was nominated by Congress to the rank of Colonel.
After completing his work at The Academy, Dr. Charles C. spent two years in Montana with his Native American friends, the Chippewa Cree, helping in their hospitals and clinics at the foot of the Bear Paw Mountains on the Canadian border. Two years later he was appointed as a consultant college professor and began teaching the Medical Sciences, American History, and applied Scientific and Medical Illustration.
The Doctor continues to practice internal medicine as a privately retained internist, as well as patient advocacy and medical law consultant for the Colorado States Attorney Generals Office. The Doctor, however, dedicates most of his time to teaching college, tutoring, and managing The Searchlight Six team at The Searchlight Studios.
Dr. Charles C., a professional illustrator and photographer, draws while he teaches. Students say that the ability to draw while lecturing has made the the doctor quite the reputation in Colorado. This, in addition to his knowledge of history and art, as well as his engaging classroom presence, make for a very interesting and dynamic classroom lecture experience. Many will take photographs of his work after he lectures. Some renderings will remain on the boards for weeks at the insistence of other instructors. Students of his tutorship can't express enough how excellent the doctor is as a one on one teacher. In addition, his ability to bring things to the table visually, as well as his clear diction during discussions is invaluable.
The Doctor considers himself a connoisseur of still photography and photo-realism illustration. He also insists on chalk board illustration usage in the classroom, as he states, "video and power point are vastly over utilized as presentation media, and have become cheap and boring replacements to good teaching". He is well known for perspective angles and unusual lighting techniques in his photography. His studios are also very adamant about the art of still photography, the use of creative lighting techniques, and the computer darkroom. His hand rendered art speaks for itself. Having won his first school-wide art contest at the age of five, and trained as a commercial artist earning an associates degree while still in high school, The Doctor can render professionally, utilizing any technique, and in any medium.
As an educator, The Doctor provides a well rounded, leadership level educational experience to any teaching environment. He pursues an attitude of "make everyone glad they meet with you today". He commands authority of knowledge, is an eloquent speaker, pursues the student mentor relationship, and cultivates introspection.
