As a life long learner, I find great satisfaction in being able to help others learn, understand, and perform what they previously did not understand and could not do. One thing I have learned over the years is that every individual learns differently. An experienced teacher, instructor, or tutor should be able to recognize this and adjust accordingly in order to maximize their student's learning capacity. The advantage a tutor has in this is one on one interaction. Since a tutor generally only has one student at a time he or she can devote all of their efforts to individualize the learning experience for the student.
As a tutor of physics and mathematics, I think the best approach is first to ensure that the concept is delivered in a very clear, concise and simple manner. Having recently been a student earning my master's degree in physics I have found from my own experiences that many times the concept is lost in confusing and complex language when it could be presented in a much simpler and more understandable way. Once that is done it is followed up with examples to reinforce comprehension. However, it is important to ensure that there is a solid foundation of understanding first.
All I ask of my students is that they be committed to put forth the effort needed to learn and succeed. It takes many hours of hard work. I know this from experience. In return, I will be completely committed and do everything I possibly can to help you achieve your goals.
