As a seminar leader with more than twenty topics in my portfolio, my favorites are still the writing and grammar topics. Believe me, anyone who can teach grammar for six hours and have people laughing can teach YOU and make it fun!
I've been reading since I was four years old and writing nearly that long. I've written and self-published several books, including a self-esteem curriculum for teenagers that was part of my master's thesis. I've edited books for clients and written and revised tons of user manuals as a technical writer (my undergraduate degree). I'm proficient in Word and PowerPoint and have done free-lance writing and editing for a wide range of clients.
I am a life-long learner and have an eclectic background. Since I started college as a math major, I'm also proficient in math and feel comfortable tutoring algebra and geometry. (I've forgotten all the calculus I once knew!)
I'm also an artist and have been knitting and crocheting since I was a child, have recently taken up quilting, and have played piano since I was seven. When something I'm interested in grabs my interest, I'll go out and learn it, whether it's a relationship technique (I'm a relationship coach, too), a new pattern, or a software program.
I'd love to meet you, discuss your needs, and see if we're a good fit. As a seminar leader with more than twenty topics in my portfolio, my favorites are still the writing and grammar topics. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My mother taught me to knit as a child, and my grandmother taught me embroidery. I taught myself to crochet. When I lived in Germany as an Army wife in the 1970's, I opened a yarn shop in our second bedroom and taught people to knit and crochet. Although I used to prefer crochet, lately I'm more drawn to knitting, and the more complicated the pattern, the more interesting it is to me!
I've been a motivational speaker and a certified professional seminar leader since 2005, with more than 20 topics in my portfolio. I've done keynotes before hundreds of people, and taught six-hour seminars to as many as 100 participants. I've created and led workshops on various topics at conferences and privately.
I have completed high school, college, and a master's degree, plus other self-study curricula, including life coaching (Coach U, 2001). I can help students understand why they are having problems studying and offer suggestions on how to stay focused and get their work done.
