My name is Trevor. My first priority as a tutor is for my students to learn the subject, but through working with me, my goal is for my students to gain skills and confidence in order to be successful in all their academic studies. I love working with students of all ages.

I am a senior enrolled at the University of Colorado at Boulder studying International Affairs and Political Science with a minor in economics. I have earned a degree in Biotechnology at the Delaware Technical Community College. I have extensive course work in chemistry, biology, politics, economics, and physics with experience in many other fields.

I have two years of experience tutoring general chemistry for majors and non-majors at DTCC and have worked as a general biology teaching assistant at CU Boulder that included tutoring hours, running review sessions, and in class assistance. I have conducted industrial pharmaceutical organic chemistry research and undergraduate biological research projects.

I was a site leader on an Alternative Breaks trip through CU Boulder focusing on youth education with 5th graders and a public achievement coach at Centaurus High School working with sophomores on youth empowerment. These experiences have taught me how to help students apply their subjects to the real world to get a thorough understanding of what they are learning.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Genetics

I have an associate's degree in biotechnology. I have taken genetics courses as well as upper division courses that cover specific concepts in genetics, such as biotechnology, microbiology, evolution, and ecology. I have done two years of population genetics research, where I applied concepts of genetics and biotechnology to my research daily. I was a TA for Bio 1 at CU Boulder, and I conducted review sections for the genetics section of the course. I have also helped a graduate student's genetics project in the ecology department, where I guided him on the genetics aspects of his research.

Political Science

I am senior majoring political science and international affairs. I have taken courses in all aspects of political science. I have done extensive reading in and know theoretical and factual basis for my field. I have great success in my courses by applying the theories and science of politics to coursework. I combine the practical knowledge of my field and know how to compile that knowledge into theoretical applications. I am organized in my essay writing techniques and help students learn the best process to write a successful political science paper that is convincing and well-written.

Public Speaking

I have two years of debate experience in high school, one of those years being the coach and captain of the team. I have three years of high school mock trial and 3 years of college mock trial, where I helped train new members and edit their work, and half a year of college Model United Nations. I know what it takes to transform from a shy kid horrified of speaking in class to a competitive and adept public speaker.
