I am a certified TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) instructor with a Bachelor's Degree from Ohio University in German and Linguistics. I have completed extensive study in second and foreign language acquisition and taught in both German and English programs. This experience has helped me to put the theories and methodologies of teaching into actual practice. I understand that no two students are exactly alike and that each student deserves the approach that best suits their learning style.
When first meeting with a student, I asses and gauge the student's needs and learning style. This helps me to identify the best ways to help the student achieve academic success. After our first session I have a better knowledge of what areas require focus, as well as the best ways to address them. While I always challenge my students to do their best work I have patience and understanding when it comes to difficult material and provide encouraging feedback throughout tutoring sessions.
I can also assist with students that have trouble reading by implementing strategies that will help them become a successful reader, that will also carry over into their writing development. I am able to help high school and college aged students in their writing development and understanding of literary concepts. I have the necessary skills to help students in the elementary grade levels to actively-read and pick out the main idea of the passage or story we are focusing on.
As a major in German, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for the German department. My duties included tutoring students from all-levels in German. I helped with grammar work, vocabulary retention, and correcting and proof-reading written work.
