Joshua’s qualifications in specific subjects below.
Astronomy
My expertise in astronomy covers everything beyond the Earth. Planets, the sun, stars, galaxies, spectroscopy, cosmology, stellar formation and evolution, constellations. You name it. If it's part of astronomy, I've studied it and can help you learn it!
Biology
I've taught high school biology several times. The areas I know best are cytology (cells), genetics, taxonomy, ecology, and evolution. I've also taught a year of botany and human anatomy, although my knowledge of those two subjects is a bit weaker.
Calculus
I have a strong college background with more than 3 years of calculus. I've taught a course worth dual credit (with a local college) for several years. If it's first-year college level calculus material, I know it thoroughly. I can also teach a smattering of calculus 2 (sequences and series) and a fair amount of calculus 3 (double and triple integrals).
Chemistry
I've taught high school chemistry several times, both remedial and advanced. I'm comfortable with electron orbitals, stoichiometry (balancing equations), moles and molarity, chemical and physical properties, the periodic table, the ideal gas law, redox reactions, and thermodynamics. My electrochemistry is a bit weaker, but I can still teach it.
Physical Science
I've taught several years of physical science. My expertise in this subject is in helping kids get a strong "scientific mindset" to help them succeed for the rest of their high school science classes. I'm familiar with all subjects for physical science but place this emphasis on teaching kids to think like scientists do. This process is slow, but helps insure quality experiments, lab write-ups, and understanding later on.
Physics
I'm well-versed in all topics in physics. Newton's laws, friction, linear motion (velocity and acceleration), gravity, momentum and impulse, energy, work, power, circuits, optics, thermodynamics, radioactive decay and half life, relativity, and quantum mechanics. Physics can be especially tricky so I help kids focus on how to properly use the equations they're given in class. I've also taught this class as a dual-credit college level course, so if you want your child to get ahead, I know how to push them far!
Precalculus
I've taught a class in this subject for several years. I'll help your child with graphing, special functions, applications of sine, cosine, and tangent. I can teach polar and rectangular coordinates, finding roots of equations, imaginary numbers, conic sections, areas and volumes, and various equations of lines.
Trigonometry
My skills in trigonometry allow me to help get across all concepts with sine, cosine, and tangent. I'll help you child with how to use the functions, when to use the functions, how to apply the functions, and how to relate them to the unit circle. The foundation we can lay here will help serve them for any future math courses. I'm comfortable with helping kids memorize key trig functions, too, if school or parents wish it!
