I have been a math tutor for over 8 years. I have tutored in almost all subjects of math. I have tutored elementary kids in math up to college kids in Calculus. Tutoring has always been a great experience for me, and I am very flexible in schedule. I am a certified high school math teacher that just loves to help students and tutor! I love math, and I enjoy helping students understand it as well. When working with a student, I usually try to show the student how I understand the material first. Then upon understanding the student's learning style, I will incorporate a variety of methods to help the student. Math can be extremely intimidating, but once those hurdles are conquered, it is very fulfilling.

With the summer coming up, I can help bridge the gap for your student. This allows them to keep those math skills sharp while preparing for the school year. Summer tutoring is extremely beneficial for those students that are anxious about their math classes in the upcoming school year.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ASVAB

I can provide quality tutoring on the Math portion of the ASVAB. The math section is primarily made up of all aspects of high school math. I have plenty of experience with tutoring all subjects in high school math. I have experience tutoring the ASVAB math portion to those that are eager to gain a high score. I have helped those that are interested and those that have already tested. I try to help with problem solving techniques as well as an understanding of the material, in order to gain confidence in succeeding the math portion of the ASVAB.

Study Skills

I have been a student most of my life. I have had the struggle of developing the proper study skills in order to succeed. I have tried different types of study skills, and developed one that fits my personal learning style. I have worked with students from a low socioeconomic background, in an effort to improve their study skills. Each day after school, I would work with an individual student and figure out the best method for that student to learn. I would help utilize this knowledge and help the student study. I have been doing this for a couple of years, and I have helped many students learn how to study on their own.

I love being a tutor. There is nothing more satisfying than hearing from a parent, "I have noticed that my student is gaining more confidence and is doing better." The overall goal of the tutor is simple, help the student understand the material. What is so motivating is finding parents that notice that their student needs the help, and are willing to go the extra mile to find the... read more

In my experience of being a tutor, the foundation of arithmetic is extremely important. Students really need to learn how to add, subtract, multiple and divide before learning how to do anything else. One of the biggest hurdles to overcome is how to deal with negatives. The concepts are a little difficult, but when putting the problem into words, it is not so bad. Here is an example of adding... read more
