I have a solid science and engineering background, with emphasis in geophysics and electrical engineering. I am also very knowledgeable in math and I have many computer programming skills.

I recently worked at a Naval Base to create a quality assurance program for tracking instrument data. I’ve become a subject matter expert in algorithm development, GPS processing, statistics, mapping techniques, position estimation, and data fusion with Kalman filters. I’ve created data processing applets using HTML forms with VB scripts. I’ve created many MatLab GUIs which I extensively use for data analysis and specialized algorithm development. I’ve converted some of my GUIs to C# to make them stand-alone. I use GIS applications, such as Google Earth and ArcMap, to display complex tracking information against terrain for reports and presentations.

Before this, I’ve taught several classes sporadically throughout my undergraduate and graduate career, and during the period when I taught several classes collectively in navigation and space science and engineering did I really become a comfortable at teaching and a successful conveyor of information. I believe that teaching steadily improves one understanding of a subject, as “the best way to learn is to teach,” and furthermore, teaching improves ones ability to communicate and disseminate information and ideas. I’ve discovered that teaching is not only important to a professor in college, but also to anyone conveying information to others, and as such, I’ve evolved my teaching style and methods while working in other positions not exclusively as a professor.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

I initially got credit for calculus by teaching myself, for all three levels. I've continued on to use higher level mathematics (such as calculus) for my science and engineering background ever since, even though today's computer world compels one to sidestep this important means of analysis.

Differential Equations

I have an extensive mathematics background from several years in science and engineering. I studied and worked on wave propagation and other physical systems that require modeling by differential equations. I understand various methods of solving differential equations, such as simple ordinary differential equations and complex ones by numerical methods such as Green's function and by complex plane analysis.

Electrical Engineering

I am a registered Professional Engineer with Colorado, with a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, from which I've extensively studied electromagnetic wave propagation such as radar through various rock media. I've worked in electronics for several years. I've designed both analog and digital circuits for various projects, and I am knowledgeable in digital signal processing. I've recently worked in analyzing tracking instruments such as GPS, radar, and optical data. I also have an extensive physics and math background.

Geology

My education is in geophysics, which includes a vast understanding of geology and the natural resources of Earth. I've worked on geophysical surveys, and lead field camp exercises. For my MS, I experimented with sending radio waves through various geologic settings that I studied and identified. I have also been a gem cutter and rock collector, working with various gems and minerals.

MATLAB

I've used MatLab extensively for algorithm development as a physicist for the Dept. of Navy. Since many math functions are built in MatLab, I could create complex functions quickly and then wrap them in a GUI for easy use, including non-subject matter experts. I created statistical applications as well as filtering ones that digitally processed tracking data. I also created Kalman estimators that would fuse datasets.

Physics

My background is in geophysics, which covers geology, physics and math. I am very knowledgeable in general physics, and my specialty is in electromagnetic wave propagation, which I studied during my Masters. I then worked in space physics thesis for my PhD: solar wind causing geomagnetic field perturbations. I also extensively studied quantum mechanics.

Precalculus

I have advanced knowledge in mathematics subjects, which include algebra, geometry, calculus, vector and matrix analysis, honed from many years in physics and electrical engineering.
