I have a solid science and engineering background, with emphasis in geophysics and electrical engineering. I am also very knowledgeable in math and I have many computer programming skills.
I recently worked at a Naval Base to create a quality assurance program for tracking instrument data. I’ve become a subject matter expert in algorithm development, GPS processing, statistics, mapping techniques, position estimation, and data fusion with Kalman filters. I’ve created data processing applets using HTML forms with VB scripts. I’ve created many MatLab GUIs which I extensively use for data analysis and specialized algorithm development. I’ve converted some of my GUIs to C# to make them stand-alone. I use GIS applications, such as Google Earth and ArcMap, to display complex tracking information against terrain for reports and presentations.
Before this, I’ve taught several classes sporadically throughout my undergraduate and graduate career, and during the period when I taught several classes collectively in navigation and space science and engineering did I really become a comfortable at teaching and a successful conveyor of information. I believe that teaching steadily improves one understanding of a subject, as “the best way to learn is to teach,” and furthermore, teaching improves ones ability to communicate and disseminate information and ideas. I’ve discovered that teaching is not only important to a professor in college, but also to anyone conveying information to others, and as such, I’ve evolved my teaching style and methods while working in other positions not exclusively as a professor.
