Hello. My name is Leighanna and I am a second year graduate student here at CU Boulder. I study biochemistry and have taught the general chemistry I and II recitations and labs for about two years. I enjoy working with students and enjoy teaching science.
Before I came to Boulder, I attended the UT Austin, where I was a mentor for one year and an undergraduate TA for one semester in the "Freshman Research Initiative." This particular section of the FRI I taught for a year and a half was called Virtual Drug Screening. I mentored for the research methods course (where basic biochemical techniques were taught) and was the TA for VDS, where students completed their own independent research project.
I still keep in contact with many of my mentees and ex-students. I have written letters of recommendation and have seen my students continuing on successfully with science as a career. My ultimate goal when I teach is to figure out the learning styles of individual students and work with them to understand the concepts/main ideas and have mastery of the subject.
