Recent Boulder transplant from California, I recently earned an MA with distinction from Durham University in England. As a tutor, my aim is to foster excellence in student achievement and provide a rigorous, supportive learning environment. I have over three years of professional experience, including k-12 teaching, university course faciliation (HIST 163, 164), and high school level private tutoring.
My last teaching position was held at College Bound for Kids (CB4K). CB4K is a summer camp program aimed in preparing elementary and middle-school children for a rigorous high school curriculum. Over the course of a few months, I taught 5-6 and 7-8 grades in literature and math. I was also given the leadership role in the program’s Science Camp, in which I single-handedly developed the entire two-week course for grades K-8 with only $100 budget.
A large aspect of my teaching style is reaching a student on his/her own level. I take time in getting know each student individually in order to understand the best method of accessing his/her learning potential. I have had great success with this methodology, for both students and parents. Because of the personal bonds I create with my students, I do not shirk from demanding curriculum nor long hours. There have been more than several occasions that I have stayed with a student past schedule to pack in extra study time before an important test the following day. The results are worth the extra effort.
