I'm a recent graduate in physics and math and worked extensively as a tutor in both subjects throughout college. I firmly believe that many students perennially struggle in these subjects because they've never been taught an effective intellectual framework. They get frustrated and think they're "bad at math" but that's not the case at all. By emphasizing thematic comprehension and sound reasoning I've helped many students improve their grades and test scores, often from failing to passing with ease.
My tutoring approach is to re-frame and break up problems in a way that the student makes the necessary connections and solves the problem on their own. It is only through this kind of deep understanding rather than memorization that these difficult subjects can be mastered. Because I don't want to waste your money, I like when our time together focuses on roughing out solutions and enhancing comprehension rather than taking time consuming calculations to their bitter end.
Approached correctly, math and physics can become satisfying rather than frustrating challenges. Ultimately my goal is to develop problem solving skills in my students that will serve them far beyond the applicability of their current course material.
Please get a hold of me if you have any questions or wonder if we might be a good fit. I'm open to group tutoring or individual, they both have some great advantages in my experience. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
As for my background, I grew up in the Midwest but have also lived on both coasts, in Germany and Thailand. I enjoy creative problem solving of all kinds. That's why I find all aspects of the renewable energy and energy efficiency movements fascinating. They occupied my academic years and hopefully will be occupying my career as well. I've also worked as a professional sailor which is a bit of a side passion.
