My name is Eric. I recently moved to Boulder from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. This past May, I graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education. While attending school I ran a music studio out of my home. For over two years I taught piano, guitar, and music theory to ten students ranging in age from 6 to 52.

I enjoy all types of music, and while I majored in a classical/jazz program I love teaching rock and folk music, songwriting techniques, TABS and chord diagrams. I also spent some time in college tutoring some of my peers with their music theory assignments. I would love to help any college student who is new to music theory.

I feel one of my biggest strengths while teaching is talking about music in a way that is relatable to the other parts of life. I consider myself a well rounded musician and person. I love cooking, hiking, watching movies, spending time with friends, and playing frisbee.

Music Theory

I have over 8 years of music theory experience. I started taking theory in high school and instantly grew to love it. I am comfortable teaching basic notation skills, ear training, dictation, interval study, part-writing, and more.

Guitar

I have been playing guitar for over 6 years. I am comfortable teaching note reading, TABS, fingerpicking, strumming patterns, chord diagrams, and basic soloing. I have taught guitar for over 3 years and I especially enjoy teaching beginners

Piano

I have been playing piano for over 10 years. I am comfortable teaching note reading, 'lead sheet' style songs, scale study, five finger piano, two handed songs, chord voicings (jazz), and basic improvisation. Most of my experience teaching over the past 3 years has been with piano students of varying levels.

Songwriting

I have written several songs as a member of a folk-rock band. I have also been a part of another recording group where i wrote horn parts and helped with general arranging. I have links to my songs available upon request.

Trumpet

I have been playing trumpet for over 13 years. While studying Music Education, trumpet was my concentration. I am comfortable teaching beginners all the way up to college students. I have played in large and small jazz ensembles, classical groups, and rock groups.
