I have a BA degree in Speech Therapy from an accredited college in Mexico and an MA in Drama Therapy from New York University. I am currently undertaking graduate coursework to obtain an MFA in Contemporary Performance from Naropa University.

I am an experienced teacher, having worked both in Mexico and the United States with students of all ages: kindergarten through college level. I have basically implemented theater and drama activities as an instrument to teach varied subjects. My areas of expertise within the teaching field involve the language arts and theatre arts. I have taught group as well as individual classes, and I have also worked with students from varied nationalities: American, Latin American, European and Asian.

Specific coursework I have taught includes the following subjects: English, Spanish, Communication Applications (Speech), Acting, Theater Directing, Theatre History, Intro to Drama Therapy, Intro to Educational Theater, Kindergarten and Elementary School tutorials.

I am also an experienced actor and theater director, having worked professionally in both Mexico and New York City in various contemporary and classical plays, as well as in soap operas for an important Mexican television network.

I love working with people and guiding them through the wonderful world of learning, helping them explore, no matter what the subject or the age, their own individual capacities in order to achieve their maximum potential.

Reading

Students are guided in their reading practices according to their specific reading goals, be it simple reading comprehension through the analysis, compare and contrast of different reading material from diverse genres: works of fiction and non-fiction, novels, essays, poems, plays. Students are lead to engage in discussions and writing assignment in order to explore subjects such as theme, character, setting, tone, point of view and plot.

Spanish

I am a native Spanish speaker and 100 percent bilingual in both English and Spanish. I began tutoring Spanish and English when I was in high school as a peer tutor for Japanese and Korean students. I expanded my experience as a Spanish and English teacher when I worked for a Language Institute in New York City, teaching immigrant students from Europe, Asia and Latin America. Writing

Students practice writing skills through formal and informal writing assignments, keeping a log of their work for consistent guided revision and evaluation of their writing progress through proper criteria and learning rubrics. They previously are introduced to pre-writing strategies in order to prepare for specific writing assignments.

English

I have taught English at a basic, intermediate and advanced level in various language institutes, both in Mexico and in the United States. Literature

Students will explore different literary genres: short story, novel, essays, poems, and plays, through analysis of specific literary elements such as theme, setting, plot, character, point of view, and tone. Students will analyze literary material through active discussion and drama games which seek to enhance points of identification with diverse subject matter and and awareness of diverse cultural perspectives.

Theatre
