I am a graduate of the University of Colorado, and I completed my degree in Humanities and Elementary Education. I have spent 2 years in the Brighton, Boulder and Denver school districts completing my student teaching experience while maintaining a focus in reading, writing, literature, and social studies. I have experience tutoring at-risk students in the Boulder County area for intensive reading intervention for students between the 1st and 12th grades. I have brought several students up at least 2 grade levels in their performance in spelling and reading comprehension. I plan to teach 2nd or 3rd grade when I graduate, and will continue on to get my masters degree in reading specialization. In addition to English, I have a history focus within my humanities degree.

I have a very flexible schedule, but I am mainly available evenings and weekends. I am happy to work with any age student, as well as any ability level, including those with learning disabilities. Teaching is my passion, and I would love to help your child gain the confidence he or she needs to succeed in school and enjoy it at the same time!

Phonics

I am in the School of Education at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and this semester I took all literature, phonics, reading and writing classes. I learned the foundations for phonetic instructions, and learned different stages of reading as well as specific instruction for targeting difficulties in phonemic awareness.

Special Needs

I am currently working at Ryan Elementary as a student teacher, and I work closely with a severely autistic student. In addition, I worked at the Dreamcatcher Organization, a non-profit group focused on aiding students with mild to severe learning disabilities who cannot afford academic support outside the classroom.

Public Speaking

I was on the speech and debate team in high school and went to nationals in the poetry event. In addition to poetry, I competed in public forum debate, Lincoln Douglas debate, oratory reading, humor, and drama. I was also in the advanced drama club in high school. With experience in both of these fields, I gained great self confidence for future academic presentations that have been required of me in college.
