I'm a part-time software developer in the Boulder area looking to get back into tutoring. My primary experience is tutoring at the high school level. My strong points are math, science, writing, and the SAT. I have a strong ability to communicate concepts to students using analogies, visual representations (I am a primarily visual learner, myself), and by working through problem sets and explaining as the work goes. I have found that, for me, the best way to teach is to jump right into the work and tackle the problem points as they occur.
My own academic experience focused heavily on computer science, biochemistry, and writing. I completed a custom-designed degree called Bioinformatic Software Development (in layman's terms, writing software for biology research) at Thomas Edison State College with a GPA of 3.7. I received an "exemplary" rating on my college writing portfolio -- a portfolio of writing in a variety of subjects and formats (science writing, literary analysis, persuasive essay, etc.) that is evaluated by faculty to ensure that all graduating students have strong writing abilities.
