My original training was at Colorado School of Mines with a Major (Bachelor's and Master's degree) in Chemical Engineering and Minor in Biological Engineering Life Sciences. I interned at National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) while completing my thesis-based masters degree. I graduated with high honors but I found that I thoroughly enjoyed teaching students in my recitation-style workshops (references upon request), so I joined Teach for America.

I have taught as a licensed secondary science teacher at two high schools for the following courses: Chemistry (regular, honors, and AP), Physics (regular, AP C and AP B), Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Earth Science. Over the Summer, I teach for outreach programs and pre-colligate health programs ACT Math, ACT science, SAT math, precalculus, calculus, and Algebra.

My qualifications:
- I was a licensed science teacher (will expire by end of 2014 and will NOT be renewed as I will be a Medical Student).
- I have a BS/MS chemical engineering and bioengineering with a GPA of 3.8.
- My ACT math, SAT math, ACT science, and SAT II Chemistry scores are: 36, 800, 35, and 780, respectively.
- I was the youngest general tutor at Colorado School of Mines(General tutors cover all of freshman and some sophomore courses including: Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Chemistry I and II, Biology I and II, and Calculus based Physics I and II, Statics).
- I have 7 years of tutoring experience

I will be a medical student and my time will be very valuable, therefore I will only tutor within 1 mile radius.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I'm a Chemical Engineer who graduated with high honors. Algebra 1 is the foundation to most math and I am very familiar teaching this to students online. My student population for Algebra I (prior to college) ranges between 8 years old - 18 years old.

As a chemistry teacher, I often have to review algebra with my students.

Algebra 2

I'm a Chemical Engineer who graduated with high honors. Algebra 1 and II is the foundation to most math and I am very familiar teaching this to students online. My student population for Algebra I and II (also known college algebra) ranges between 8 years old - 18 years old.

As a chemistry teacher, I often have to review algebra with my students.

Anatomy

I've been tutoring for over 10 years, and professionally for 7 years. I have a minor in Bioengineering. I am currently a medial student so I will be familiar with anatomy.

Chemistry

My background major is chemical engineering, graduated with high honors. I have been tutoring at the college campus for 3 years, tutor privately online for 6 years, and am currently teaching chemistry and AP chemistry.

My tutoring style is using hints, facts, and questions to guide student's thinking. Please do NOT expect me to provide answers directly as that only hinder's a learning process. Please only contact me if you interested in learning rather than ONLY needing help completing an assignment as I will not be doing any problems for you. I may make up an example problem to help you but I refuse to do your homework as I am also a high school teacher.

Prealgebra

I'm a Chemical Engineer who graduated with high honors. Algebra 1 and II is the foundation to most math and I am very familiar teaching this to students online. My student population for Algebra I and II (also known college algebra) ranges between 8 years old - 18 years old.

Wonderful tutor! — I have a son in AP Chem and a daughter in General Chem, both have the same, very tough, teacher. Mellisa is changing their lives. She is patient and passionate and they really respond to her. There is so much pressure on kids today. I expect great grades, but I feel like I need to support them as well. I wish I would have hired Mellisa in August. Her English is perfect and my children's stress le ...
