Greetings!

I am a Denver transplant and grew up moving often as part of a military family. The time traveling as a child instilled in me a passion for lifelong learning and teaching.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in History, minoring in Communication from the University of New Mexico and am currently working to complete my Master of Science in Education focusing on ESL/ESOL and methods of teaching and learning. I have completed graduate coursework in Public History and historic preservation at New Mexico State University with the goal to bring the past to life and engage the public to preserve and restore our historic treasures. One way I participate in current efforts is as a Docent of guided tours at the Molly Brown House Museum in Denver, Colorado.

Drawing on the vastness of my personal and academic experience, I am prepared to meet students where they are and encourage moving through the steps to comprehension and critical thinking. I believe that critical thinking skills are essential to success as well as to a free and functioning society. When a student can learn how to learn, all areas of study become available and the possibilities of finding their niche, a reality.

I look forward to helping you on your path to becoming a lifelong learner.

Anthropology

As part of my coursework in graduate Public History studies at New Mexico State University, I took multiple courses on anthropology and museology. I have worked with the Mesilla Valley Historic Society to collect oral histories and preserve local buildings important to the founding families. As an undergraduate, I studied anthropology focused on communication and women's roles in developing societies.

Social Studies

I am currently enrolled in an accreditation program with Teacher Ready as well as working on my MS in Education at CSU Global Campus. I have a BA in History and three years experience as a Docent at the Molly Brown House Museum. I offer guided historical tours showcasing the House Museum as well as the life of Margaret Tobin Brown and world history from 1867 to 1932.

Sociology

Sociology is an essential aspect of studying a broader history. As made popular in books such as Lies My Teacher Told Me, sociology often informs popular memory and therefore the documenting of historic events. I have taken both general and specific courses on the study of groups and group interactions. I have taught localized sociology of life in Denver, Colorado; Paris, France; and New York, New York from 1867 to 1932.

Study Skills

While studying ESL/ESOL teaching methods I have become very familiar with multiple styles of students showing intelligence and comprehension. The same style does not work for every type of learner and in order to progress through Bloom's Taxonomy to higher level thinking, students need methodology that works for them. I focus on finding the preferred learning style and customizing material to be understood quickly and clearly.
