My name is Rita. I recently graduated from Boston University, with degrees Secondary English Education and English as a second Language. I have been looking for opportunities to tutor students in English and Language Arts in order to broaden my horizons as a future English teacher. I do not have any age requirements because I have worked with all ages of students before in some capacity of tutoring. I have student taught with both middle school and high school students in English Language Arts. I have spent this past year tutoring children between ages 6-18 with after school homework help and creative writing through the program 826Boston. This past summer I worked with a program called Breakthrough creating a literature curriculum and implementing it for eighth grade students participating in the summer program. I am returning to this program once again this summer in the same position. I was also a swim coach for four years for my neighborhood swim team the Chapparal Sharks. I have in depth knowledge of how to communicate with all types of age groups. With my vast experience I have learned the importance of patience and learning to adapt to each individual students learning style. I look forward to utilizing tutoring as an opportunity to improve my skills working with students and to help students who will benefit from extra help or work to maintain the skills they already have. I look forward to hearing from you! My name is Rita. I recently graduated from Boston University, with degrees Secondary English Education and English as a second Language. First and foremost, I was looking for a writing tutor for my 4th Grader. I found Rita through Wyzant. When I first reached out to her, I asked her to provide me with a summary of her approach. It was informative and sound which pushed me to the next step which was to meet with her. Rita's been working with my son for a few weeks now and has given him the structure and confidence he needs to writing better reports and creatively. She comes prepared each session with a different writing focus and exercise. She's very patient working with my son - not intimidating at all.
I happened to be thinking about getting private swim lessons for my daughter but didn't have a chance to look into it. I lucked out with Rita as she happens to be a swimmer and has coached previously. I asked her if she would be willing to provide swim lessons as well and she was. Although my daughter is not learning how to swim from nothing (she previously took swim lessons but lost the confidence), Rita has done a great job in teaching her the front stroke, back stroke and most importantly rolling onto her back when she's tired and treading water in a short period. My daughter is now going down the water slide and swimming all over the pool where she would only stay in the shallow end before. It was a great crash course in swimming! Again, Rita was very patient and encouraging with my daughter.
We love Rita! She's done a great job working with my kids!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a member of my High school speech and debate team for three years. I participated in Public Forum debate, Extemporaneous speaking, Duo (memorization of a dramatic or comedic piece with a partner). and congress. I have in depth knowledge of public speaking exercises and how to improve public speaking skills.
I swam competitively from the age of 4 until I was 19 years old. I coached my local neighborhood swim team for five years, the Chapparal Sharks. I have given private lessons since I was 13 years old. I have maintained my swim skills even though I no longer participate in competitive swimming.
