I am a native Chinese speaker and hold a B.A. in Chinese Language and Literature from Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai, China, with a focus on teaching Chinese as a second language. I also earned a Master’s Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Southern Illinois University. I taught English Composition 101 as an Instructor at Southern Illinois University, and was a chairman of the Student Linguistics Association Tutoring Program, where he tutored students in academic writing.
Currently, I am a Mandarin language teacher at Broomfield Academy, Colorado. I teach the whole school Chinese and culture from pre-school to middle school. I encourage an interactive and communicative learning approach with technology in my classroom. Besides conducting communicative teaching, I use technology to assist teaching and create more visualized instructions to students. I also integrate technology (SmartBoards, Blackboard, Internet, iPad apps, PowerPoint) in a sound manner in the classroom and homework assignments. Students can also build their self-learning skills at home through technology. Students learn effectively when they are engaged.
As a scholar of Chinese Literature, I am very well read in traditional Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. These spiritual insights have had a significant influence on me and I am eager to accomplish teaching Chinese language combining with traditional Chinese cultures. As a Chinese teacher, I desire to help each student in my classroom enjoy learning and develop the interest and find his or her potential in the subject. I need to know what my students are and what their background is as well as their learning styles to help and effective lesson planning and instruction.
