My name is Ben and I'm an aspiring psychologist interested in learning and memory research. I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and have spent several years evaluating test preparation strategies at the University of Colorado, the Community College of Denver, and the Community College of Aurora.

I believe that successful learning strategies separate what we already know from what we need to learn. Exercises should identify gaps in knowledge and selectively bridge those gaps without forcing the tedious repetition of familiar material. Attention is limited in its capacity and can be exhausted in any person. Cognitive techniques can empower learners to anticipate this deficit, alternate between task types, and resist the depletion of attentive energy. No single solution exists for every learner. My goal is to empower you to test yourself and monitor your own progress.

I am confident that I can provide an approach which will improve performance for test takers in many different subjects including Algebra, Psychology, Statistics, Research Methods, Biology, American/World History, and English (reading, writing). Consider my services if you want to explore learning strategies and maximize your learning capacity.

Thanks,
Ben M.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Study Skills

At the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora CO, I participated in the construction of a flashcard application designed for smartphones. The purpose of the application was to reinforce information that commonly occurred in answers on the RITE (Residency In-service Training Examination.) My role was to parse the information in the answer keys and to determine what images should be included on card slides. During my investigation I came to the conclusion that it is important to change the way we approach our learning strategy when it fails. In this instance the primary investigator and I hoped to address the failure of existing study materials by changing the way those same materials were presented. Good study skills are all about the presentation which best holds your interest, and I can help you find it.
