Experienced and Effective Tutor for K-12 students

Hi Everyone,

My name is Ruby, and I look forward to working with you or your student. I have tutoring experience in art, music (emphasis on guitar), history, and English at the high school level and in all subjects at the elementary/junior high level. With younger siblings at ten and twelve years of age, I also know how to work with kids and how best to teach them. Eventually, I hope to become a teacher myself; I am in school to become a philosophy professor. Although my chosen discipline is one of the more serious ones, I believe that learning, particularly at a grade-school level, is best when it's made fun and exciting. Some of my methods for younger children include language and math games instead of always just reading from a text book and teaching high schoolers to look at "boring stuff" like Shakespeare in a more interesting light by making it more entertaining and relatable. I do my best to ensure that my students remain engaged and have as good a time as possible while learning as much as possible.

With the exception of philosophy, English has always interested me more than any other subject, and I have tutored kids from elementary through high school levels. Guitar

I have 12 years of experience as a musician, on saxophone, harmonica, and-my main instrument-guitar. I have played live numerous times and have been giving guitar lessons, both electric and acoustic, for 3 years. My main areas of interest are in rock and blues guitar, though I have also taught classical.

ADD/ADHD

After working for two years at a school for kids with learning difficulties such as ADD/ADHD, I've found more effective ways to teach them. The most important tool is patience, as well as knowing that alternative methods such as boardgames and flash cards help these kids learn better.
