Power Tutoring: Focused on your needs to get the results you want.

I have been an elementary school classroom teacher and teacher librarian since 1985 and have been providing individual and small group tutoring for both children and adults since 2011. This summer, besides individual tutoring in various subjects, I am offering focused small group math tutoring for students entering grades 3-6 who are a year or more behind in math.

After an initial free assessment session, students will attend small group sessions of from two to four students focused on specific concepts and skills. Students will attend only the sessions they need. Since my group rate is less than half my individual tutoring rate, this an inexpensive way to help your child close the gap between their current level and grade level math.

Assessment will begin in mid-May and small groups will begin in early June. Students can join at any time and scheduling will be flexible to accommodate your family’s summer plans. Contact me through WyzAnt for further questions or to arrange an initial assessment for your child.

Reading

Reading is a practical life skill and a source of mental stimulation and enjoyment. As a teacher I understand the essential components of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension) and how to assess and strengthen each one at any level. GED

There are two parts to preparing for the GED tests. The first is identifying and filling any gaps in basic skills: math computation and number sense, grammar and punctuation, and applying analytic skills such as cause and effect, fact and opinion, and compare/contrast to readings in different subject areas. Elementary Math

Most students who struggle in math lack a solid understanding of numbers and how they work. They depend on memorizing how to do all the different problems and become confused. They can't tell when an answer doesn't make sense and have difficulty applying math skills to everyday situations. My approach to solving this problem is active, hands-on, and fun. During the school year I communicate with classroom teachers so that the student can experience immediate success in the classroom.
