I am a retired school teacher with thirty-two years of teaching experience. I taught elementary school, grades kindergarten through fifth grade, for twenty-five years. Seven of those years were working with special education students. Most of my regular classroom experience was in first, second, and fifth grades. I also taught math and history at the middle school level for eight years. I am a Colorado native and have lived in Aurora and worked for Aurora Public Schools for 25 years. I miss working with students and feel tutoring would be a fun way to continue to contribute to my community.
My tutoring methods would be to assess where the student is presently performing then work with him/her at the current level, helping the student to achieve to his/her potential. I can help with homework or provide grade level appropriate alternative work. I have a strong literacy background, thus can devise reading and writing lessons to improve the student's skills. I am also strong in teaching students study skills for reading and writing in other content areas; learning how to take notes and study for tests; teach basic organization skills necessary for success in middle school. I can also assist in all other elementary school subjects: math, spelling, science, vocabulary, social studies, etc. I find that students are more successful when lessons tie in to their personal interests. I would try to make learning as fun as possible.
I would be willing to work with students in the southeast Aurora or Parker Colorado communities. Please contact me if you are interested in receiving individual or small group tutoring for your child.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
