As a high school student, I was part of a program that helped the children of broken families. We meet up with our children every Wednesday and either helped them with their homework, or if they finished their homework, play games with them and spend time with them. I was also part of another program that tutored the local elementary school and middle school. Twice a week, we would stay at their after school program and help the students with anything they needed, whether it was help with their homework, or help with their study skills. I have helped elementary school children with any subject they needed help with, whether it was science, language arts, history, or math. As a college student I would help the children at my church who needed extra help with their homework, which ranged from elementary school to younger college students.
I have taken music theory alongside piano lessons for 13 years. Additionally, I have taken music theory, history of music, and history of jazz classes as an undergraduate in Boulder.
I have taken genetics at the University of Colorado at Boulder as an undergraduate. I have experience tutoring other undergraduate students and those needing genetics tutoring for the MCATs.
I have been playing piano for 18 years, taken lessons for 13 years. During those 13 years, I have performed in yearly recitals, and even competed in various competitions. Some of them included the SSMTA Festival, and the Clementi Festival. I have also completed 14 years of music theory, including college leveled music theory classes. I have competed in the yearly music theory competitions, and have won awards for those as well. I feel most comfortable with teaching beginners.
Being a recent graduate at the University of Colorado at Boulder, I have dedicated much of my time volunteering and tutoring. I have learned through personal experience, that good study skills and hard work is a strong foundation for success. As a student I have struggled with rushing through study material for exams, and found myself stressed during tests. However, once I developed my study skills, I realized that homework, essays, and studying for exams didn't take as long as it use to.
Even though I was in the gifted in talented program from elementary through high school, I did not fully develop my study skills until I was a college student. As a high school student and college student, I have tutored students ranging from elementary to younger college students. Some students I have tutored who struggled in school was because they never learned how to study, not from lack of intelligence. Having gone through my personal experience, and helping others develop their study skills, I feel that I have unique experiences I could teach others.
