I am certified a teacher in secondary education for both math and science. I taught high school math and science for nine years at a Thornton high school. I have taught mathematics at Front Range Community College for the past seven years. I am currently employed by Front Range as an adjunct professor teaching anything from developmental math to college level Calculus. In this role, I am viewed by most students to be an excellent teacher, who knows how to convey mathematical understanding in an easy and understandable manner.

Prior to my teaching career, I was employed as an electrical engineer and a manager for the computer industry for thirty years. I have also worked as an intern for the National Renewable Energy Labs and University of Colorado Medical Center.

You will find my manner is concise and to the point. I attempt to focus on how I think about mathematics and work to understand the student's misconceptions. I look forward in working with you as your tutor.

Mike is a very patient and generous person. He should know that on the way to the session, my daughter was against retaking the test that formed the bulk of the session (her teacher had said that she may retake the test to improve her grade). On the way home, she asked if I thought she had to make a copy of the test in hand. I told her that her teacher is bound to have other copies of that test, and all she has to do is ask for one. She said "OK". So THANK YOU, because now she has the confidence to take another run at this test and to improve her understanding and, consequently, her grade.

Mike is very patient and zeroes in on the learning that is necessary to successfully pass the tests. I highly recommend him.

I'm not 100% sure, but my guess is I am now one of the oldest students Mike has ever had. Being out of college for more years than I care to admit, and looking to become a Middle-School math teacher since moving to Denver just 7 months ago, I knew I was facing an uphill challenge. To his absolute credit, Mike was patient, supportive, and tireless in his efforts to "re-educate" me. While we couldn't possibly have known the extent of the subjects covered in the PLACE test in mathematics, he must have been doing something right, because I passed - something that I absolutely couldn't have accomplished without his help. He was totally "schedule flexible", and we crammed 10 hours of tutoring into the 1-1/2 weeks I had before taking the test. Oh, and did I mention that I recently landed a part-time job as a Middle School math teacher thanks to his incredible efforts. I would strongly recommend Mike K. as a tutor for anyone looking to improve their High School through College level math skills.

Mike knows his stuff and connects well with my teenage son. He is really responsive to setting appointment requests, too.

Mike helped our daughter with some pre-calc studies for a test she needed to take. He was very patient working with her and explained things in a way that she could understand, and he continually checked with her throughout the session to make sure they were "on the same page". And, before the session ended, he had her going through the problems as an extra check. I truly appreciate his working with her. We called him on a last minute basis and he truly accommodated us. Thank you so much!

Mike K is an excellent tutor and really knows his algebra. He is very patient and has certainly given me a better understanding of college algebra. I would use him again and highly recommend him as a math coach. He knows his stuff!!! He is prompt and thorough. Pleased with the tutoring!!!

Lessons are going well!!!

Math:

ACT Math,
Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As a high school teacher I worked with students to improve their ACT scores. As this test allows only 60 minutes, test taking strategies to manage time becomes imperative.

As a 9th grade teacher for 5 years, teaching algebra 1 was my major focus. This is where I discovered being good in mathematics does not always mean you are a good teacher. You need to listen to students, provide "the" easiest and most direct means to solve problems. I know that I am a better college teacher as a result of teaching at a high school.

I currently hold a Colorado certification in secondary education to teach mathematics. Additionally, I am currently employed as an adjunct professor of mathematics at Front Range Community College.

The vast majority of classes that I have taught both at high school and college is algebra 2. I have a thorough understanding of this course content and what it takes to be successful in this classes and future math classes.

I have taken three semester of Calculus via my engineering degree. As an Electrical Engineer, circuit design required the use routine use of Calculus I have also taken a Calculus Refresher class while teaching high school. I have successfully tutored many students in this content area.

I worked as an Electrical Engineer for 30 years. I am very knowlegable in digital design and assembly level programming. Iam considered as a expert in the field of digital design and boolean algebra. I hold several patents in this area. I am an expert in the design of Solid State devices. This is the result of working with Storage Technology Corp. and IBM for 25 plus years. I have also worked with the head of the Electrcal Enineering department of the University fo Colorado to do process delvelopment in microcode processes.

I currently hold a Colorado certification in secondary education to teach mathematics. Additionally, I am currently employed as an adjunct professor of mathematics at Front Range Community College.

Geometry is certainly a different kind of math. It seemingly has an endless amount of theorems and postulates to remember. My approach is to focus of a few basic ideas that can be use universally and then build from there. Geometry is an important area of mathematics as it represents one of the most commonly used (real world) applications.

I have my BS degree is in Electrical Engineering. This undergraduate work require classes in logic design. I also took a couple of graduate level classes in logic and switching theory from the University of Minnesota. More importantly, I worked as a digital logic designer for over ten years.

As such I am extremely knowledgeable in Boolean algebra, Karnaugh maps and state machines, and assembly level programming. These skill were required in early 70's as the use of higher level languages had not yet been developed. I have thirty years of experience working in the computer equipment industry prior to becoming a teacher.

I have taught physics at the high school level. In college, I haven taken two semester of calculus based physics, two semester of Thermodynamics, a semester of Statics and a semester of Dynamics.

Per the States guidelines, I am considered to be highly qualified to teach both math and science at the high school level. Having this math background is beneficial when assisting students with this very math based science.

I currently hold a Colorado certification in secondary education to teach mathematics. Additionally, I am currently employed as an adjunct professor of mathematics at Front Range Community College.

I am currently teaching this level of mathematics. I listen and watch for students misunderstandings and work to provide easy and understandable approaches to solve mathematical problems.

I currently hold a Colorado certification in seconndary education to teach mathematics. Additionally, I am currently employed as an adjunct professor of mathematics at Front Range Community College.

Precalculus is a combination of Algebra 2 and trigonometry. I have taught both of these content areas at the high school and college level.

As a high school teacher I worked with students to improve their SAT scores. As this test penalizes a person for guessing and is timed, test taking strategies becomes an imperative.

I have taught trigonometry at both the high school and college level. This can be a tough topic to learn if for no other reason than the sheer quantity of identities that are involved. However there are a few strategies that can help a student be successful in this endeavor.
