I am a early childhood teacher with extensive experience teaching and tutoring in grades K-6. My background is in Montessori, and I believe that engaging a child's interest is the first step to academic success. I prefer to incorporate manipulatives and movement into my tutoring sessions, both to keep their interest and to improve learning outcomes.

I have taught phonics to struggling readers, worked with low-performing students to raise their CSAP scores, and taught English as a Foreign Language abroad in Japan. I am also confident in teaching beginning and intermediate Japanese.

Japanese

I lived in Japan for five years, using the language daily. While in Japan, I took and passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 2, which indicates a high degree of mastery (There are five levels, with 1 being the highest and indicating native level fluency). I keep in practice by talking regularly to my Japanese friends, and would enjoy the chance to assist students with this fascinating language.

Elementary Math

Elementary students often struggle with math because it is presented in an abstract manner- abstract thinking develops gradually over the course of childhood. I approach math with concrete representations of concepts, then proceed to abstraction and memorization. I am a trained Montessori teacher, and am familiar with math techniques which can be very successful for students who aren't succeeding through traditional methods.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified Montessori primary teacher and ECT qualified in the state of Colorado. I have several years of experience working with children ages 3-12, including tutoring and classroom teaching. I prefer hands-on learning methods and use manipulatives whenever possible, and I believe the most important part of successful tutoring is engaging the student's interest.
