Being a seasoned teacher/tutor, I have taught elementary school children for the past 40 years- 20 years in the Philippines and 20 years in a private school here in USA. In January, 2004, I received recognition from the OC Family Magazine as one of the 10 "Teachers Making a Difference." Likewise, I was honored a Top Teacher Award by Sylvan Learning Center in December of 2003. I am a mother of two, a boy and a girl, who were once my students during their elementary grades. I tutored after school hours in all the schools I taught (at Sacred Heart School for Boys and Cebu International School in Cebu, Philippines; at Heritage Oak Private School in Yorba Linda, California).
I always believe that children have a great potential. To become successful in their studies, teamwork is needed. Concerted efforts coming from the student, the parent, as well as the teacher/tutor, must be developed. Depending on their challenges in learning, it is recommended that children may only allot a certain amount of time for after-school programs/activities in order to be more focused on their work at hand. In this way, learning concepts taught will be more internalized and understood. However, children need to "play", thus giving them ample playtime will be beneficial to their growth. Positive reinforcements enhance their learning capabilities, as well. With a rounded personality, children will be able to go out into the world with great success, equipped with a sound mind and body.
