I have over 20 years experience as an expert Microsoft applications developer and trainer. I help users get the most out of Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. I am especially fond of Excel, and love to build complex linked spreadsheets using named pages and fields, macros, conditional formatting, variables, formulas, and lookups.
I also can be helpful with MLA and APA formatting for thesis work requiring annotation, citation, headings, contents, tables, charts and graphs using Word combined with Excel. I can show you how to integrate databases, tables, video and graphs into PowerPoint presentations. This is especially useful if you analyze variable data and make regular presentations.

Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator is a powerful design program that uses vector (line and angle) graphics. At it's most basic, it is a line drawing program. With it's many tools you can create logos, fonts, flyers, posters, signs, and advertising.

When used in tandem with Photoshop, you can link files and include images with your line graphics.

Illustrator allows users to create images with sharp edges, providing the most superb display of fonts with eps postscript graphics. Export your file to InDesign or a PDF for professional printing.

Illustrator is a must for any graphic designer or advertising producer.

Adobe InDesign

Adobe InDesign is a page layout program that allows you to manage documents easily up to 200 pages and more.

InDesign is what professional graphic artists use to assemble files from many sources into a cohesive publication. This is the program that books, magazines, instruction manuals, and newspapers are laid out page by page.

InDesign allows you to link text from a Word document, add photos from Photoshop, line art and logos from Illustrator, and even PDF files into one document.

I review the user interface, the toolbars, views, templates, page numbering and file system for InDesign. Sizing text, choosing appropriate font and color palette libraries,
columns, paragraphs, and text alignment and positioning will be covered.

If you use Photoshop or Illustrator, InDesign is an extension of those tools and you can publish multi-page documents from your desktop - or create a file folder with all the linked files and the InDesign layout and color separations to send directly to your commercial printing service.


Dreamweaver brings together development tools to build websites. It centralizes files, style sheets, and web pages.

Combining html with style sheets, templates, database tools and media files, you can create robust, dynamic pages for web or intranet.

I help you get started with Dreamweaver, discussing the user interface, the menu, the tool bars, templates, css, and linking data to html.

I also show you how to test and then publish your website to the internet.

One of the first projects will be to set up a site that includes a testing server, a discussion of domains, and editing html as a text file.

I recommend three or four hours of instruction to become familiar with the powerful tools in Dreamweaver.

General Computer

I have been working with computers for over 20 years, and can help you become familiar with all the basics so you can start using your computer to access the internet, send and receive email, and how to use your mouse and keyboard. I can help you transition from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and how to use touch screen devices such as smart phones and tablet computers.
I also can advise you on managing your email messages, creating folders, and organizing your files. Separately, I help you understand computer networks, sharing files, passwords, and network security.


I share over twenty years of marketing experience, where I ran national campaigns that included radio, television and newspaper advertising.

I cover advertising, promotion and publicity, as well as marketing operations and logistics. We will review sales, retail and media promotions, in-store display and sampling, prizing and sweepstakes.

I help you learn to target productive markets, identify key demographics, establish a season, create a media plan, produce advertising, traffic and implement the plan. I help you start with a measured goal, establish sales goals, create budgets and review the success of your campaign.

We can discuss markets, media efficiency, and adding new media to the mix. You will produce a media plan to complete the course.

I recommend at least four hours of instruction to allow time to cover all the topics.

Microsoft Access

Microsoft Access provides a powerful desktop database program, with built in Wizards to help you build forms, queries, reports and tables.

I introduce you to the user interface, the menu bar features, the toolbars, and built-in templates that enable you to build a complete solution for your particular application.

Access will allow you to manage large files of records, create analytical reports, and can be linked to Excel and other Microsoft applications.

I will show you how to enter basic commands, scripts, and default formulas for fields.

I recommend you spend at least 8 hours in class to learn the program well.

Microsoft Excel

I love Microsoft Excel, and have been building complex spreadsheets for over twenty years. I can help you create tables, forms, email lists, graphs and formulas, linked and named fields, macros, lookups, and more! I can show you how to use conditional formatting, the menu and toolbars, named pages, and how to use wizards to build components and analytical tools. Link your data, graphs, sums, and research from separate spreadsheets to other Microsoft applications like Word and PowerPoint for great looking presentations and reports.

Microsoft Outlook

Outlook provides a central location to manage your calendars and communications.

I provide an overview of the user interface, the functions of the menu bar, tool bars, navigation pane, preview pane, reading pane.

I also discuss managing your inbox, archiving and deleting messages, data files, distribution lists, groups, as well as tasks and journal entries. I can help you integrate Outlook with Excel and Word to do produce mailings, form letters, stationary, and signature lines.

Microsoft Project

I have over 20 years experience as an operations manager and project manager.

I first began using Microsoft Project in the early 1990's to manage national marketing campaigns, and used it frequently to plan technology projects where engineers from multiple disciplines collaborated to complete a single project. I created media management software that utilized Microsoft Project as a component of media planning, production, execution and accounting.

Microsoft Project allows you to schedule assets and resources; plan, allocate and monitor milestones and completions; create GANTT charts and other graphs and charts to clearly convey timelines and responsibilities.

Microsoft Word

I can help you discover the power of Microsoft Word, with its many built-in formatting tools, templates, and easy user interface. If you can master Microsoft Word, you will be able to use most other Microsoft applications intuitively. I can teach you to incorporate spreadsheets, graphs and charts from Excel, along with data reports from Access, in your Word document. I can also help you to create an outline in Word, and then create a presentation from the outline in PowerPoint. In addition, I can assist you in creating a database or mailing list in Excel or Access, and then making form letters, envelopes, email campaigns, or reports in Word.

For students, Word makes it easy to format citations and references, as well as add headings, page numbers and dates to your page layout.

Public Speaking

I can help you use emphasis, inflection, and pause to reach your audience.

I was a radio announcer in high school and college, and studied voice acting and performance for four years. I have produced and provided voice work for hundreds of radio and television commercials. In my professional career, I have also hired many voice artists and speakers.

I also regularly presented information to business groups, city councils, planning commissions, at training seminars and large meetings and technical presentations.
