My expertise is in American History, Political Science, 20th Century World History and Marketing. I have an MBA from Pepperdine University. My marketing knowledge comes from 15 years of hands-on experience.
My resume doesn't show my aptitude for American History or my love of teaching. Throughout my career I have mentored young people and others about the radio and television industry and have taught UCLA extension classes. I have a passion for teaching with the goal of having the student learn the subject material and do well.
I have always been an avid reader of American History. In the past 10 years I read over 150 books/e-books on American History and all of the Presidents of the United States. Many of the books I have read are Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award Winners.
I just recently tutored a college student in the pre-Revolution era through Reconstruction who was earning D grades in American History. She received a B+ on her midterm and aced her final.
I am very adept and comfortable teaching and tutoring early American History through the Obama administration.
To prepare for each tutoring session, I find the student's class book online that he/she is using and study each chapter. In addition, I ask for a copy of their class synopsis with quizzes, midterm and final dates. I work closely with the students on topics their teachers are highlighting in class and what they are having challenges with. Usually the student will email me the chapter and topics prior to each tutoring session. I create worksheets and bullet points on each topic from my past reading and any extra details from my history library. My teaching philosophy is to be prepared, make the information interesting and engage the student.
Studying for a final is usually 2 sessions.
Thank you,
Karen
