I earned my doctorate of Education and have over 30 years of experience helping people learn.
I know that learning new or challenging material does not come naturally to everyone ... it did not come easy to me! Throughout all my years of education, I had to create fun, engaging ways to wake up my brain, to stay focused, to get through and digest difficult material.
I still use all the tricks for study and learning that I came up with for myself, as well as methods proven through research. The main thing is: everyone has a different challenge issue and a different key or several keys to get into the study and learning groove.
Sometimes, the material itself is not the most difficult part, but ineffective study habits are getting in the way.
When this is the situation, I help you to learn new, effective study habits that work for you, your unique strengths.
Frequently (almost always) more of the learner needs to get into involved ... not just read material, or just hear a lecture ... music, rhythm, visual cues, movement, combining material in unusual ways with other material you already "Get". Part of the tutoring experience with me might include (if it is needed) understanding what helps you learn, and coming up with creative methods ... (multi-modal, multi-sensory) for study and learning ... You will most likely use these methods for the rest of your life, in more ways than you can imagine.
Often the difficulty with new learning is an emotional block or attitude that is getting in the way. When this is needed, we will address and resolve this.
To summarize: I will mix and match as needed, four aspects to help you learn more easily, naturally and successfully (not everyone needs each of these components, everyone is different):
1. help develop more effective study habits
2. assess and help you understand your unique study/learning challenges and style
3. create methods and ways to make study learning more natural or flow more easily for you
4. address emotional obstacles to the learning
So if you want to learn successfully, and to learn to learn, and to have fun and feel natural mastering material, then we will be a good fit. If you just want to squeak by, then I am not your best choice for a tutor.
See you at the head of the class!
