I have a BS in mathematics from California State University of Northridge and I was also a private math tutor for 8 years (mostly high school level with some college experience).
I would describe my tutoring method as classical. I thoroughly explain the topic at hand, drill the necessary skills, and teach him/her how to approach each math problem. In my experience, this method is the most effective way to help students master the subject matter, because there is no substitute for pencil-to-paper. My method will also increase the student's ability to think critically and help establish a strong work ethic. I am aware of the inherent tedium that comes from studying math, which is why I do my very best to relate each topic to his/her personality and make it enjoyable.
I tutored my cousin multiple times during the spring semester of 2013, and she received an "A" in her statistics class.
