Hello!

Thank you for your interest in hiring me as your tutor. I am very passionate about helping students achieve their academic goals and love to see my students’ eyes light up when they finally understand a new concept.

I earned my Bachelor's degree from UCLA with a major in American Literature, minor in Education, and a specialization in the Diversified Liberal Arts. I also earned a Master’s degree in Education with a specialization in Curriculum Development and Instruction. I then attended law school and earned my Juris Doctor degree. I have tutored a wide range of students including elementary students, university and graduate students, and adult learners. I have also taught English abroad in South Korea. Whether you need tutoring, or a sounding board for your college application or personal statement, I would enjoy the opportunity to be your teacher, mentor, and cheerleader!

I understand that every student has a different learning strength. Therefore, I take an individualized approach to tutoring, and customize each lesson to my students’ needs. My ultimate goal is to fill in any gaps students have in their learning so they can better understand the subject they are struggling with and no longer require my assistance. Many students were never taught the basic concepts of a specific subject. Because students lack a strong foundation, the entire course can be a struggle for them. If this is the situation you are facing, we will work on the basics first so you can better understand your subject as a whole.

I am extremely patient and will not judge you. I will just help you. I will meet you at your level of understanding, whatever that level may be, and we will build from there. I will quickly fill in the gaps, get you caught up, and teach you how to deal with new concepts on your own. Later, if your subject presents a new challenge, we can address it with an occasional tutoring session.

I make myself available for discussion and communication outside of regularly scheduled sessions. I have routinely worked through the night to edit students' college essays and applications as deadlines fast-approached, and have helped calm nerve-racked students prior to their exams and first job interviews.

Thank you again for your interest. I look forward to working with you!

Career Development

I am very passionate about helping students determine their career paths. I have heard horror stories about career counselors misadvising students, causing them to lose precious time, waste their already limited financial resources, and sometimes even lose hope in pursuing their academic and career goals all together.

I want to share my experiences with students and help them think outside the box and know that there are many paths to success.

I completed a minor in Education at UCLA, and earned a Masters degree in Education. I was also a law school admissions recruiter.

As an undergraduate student I mentored high school students in the Career Based Outreach Program in low socioeconomic areas of Los Angeles and encouraged them to pursue higher education.

As a law student I was able to find my fellow classmates internships and jobs.

I enjoy helping students find interships or jobs through my large professional network.

CBEST

I am aware of its different components because I took the CBEST, and have helped students prepare for the CBEST in the past.

In addition, I have a tremendous amount of teaching experience and education. I earned a Bachelor's degree from UCLA where I majored in American Literature, minored in Education, and completed a specialization in the Diversified Liberal Arts. I also earned a Master's degree from Cal State LA in Curriculum and Instruction.

College Counseling

I am very passionate about helping students figure out what they want to study and why. I have heard horror stories about college and career counselors misadvising students, causing them to lose precious time, waste their already limited financial resources, and sometimes even lose hope in pursuing their academic and career goals all together.

As an undergraduate student I tutored elementary students through the UCLA America Reads Program.

I also have a Master's degree in Education, with an emphasis on curriculum and Instruction.

In addition, I taught English to children in South Korea, and am familiar with teaching students English as a Second Language.

Through my education and teaching experiences, I learned a variety of teaching methods to help students better understand any issues they encounter in math, reading, and writing.

Elementary Math

I earned a B.A. from UCLA. While there, I completed a minor in Education and a specialization in the Diversified Liberal Arts.

I also have a M.A. in Education from Cal State LA.

English

I have a Bachelor's degree from UCLA. I majored in American Literature, minored in Education, and completed a specialization in the Diversified Liberal Arts. I also earned a Master's degree from Cal State LA in Education, and a law degree from Drexel University. I enjoy helping students interpret texts and write various types of papers and reports.

ESL/ESOL

I have assisted several students with improving their English language conversation, writing, vocabulary, and reading comprehension skills. I check pronunciation, tone, grammar, and teach American phrases while carrying on a conversation, reading short passages, and discussing current events.

My ultimate goal is to build my students' confidence so they can hold regular conversations with other people in any situation.

Law

I attended Drexel Law School and Loyola Law School and earned my J.D. in 2011.

I completed internships at the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, and the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, and clerked for a homicide judge for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas.

I also worked for a solo practitioner, a criminal defense attorney, and am a volunteer at the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law.

I have used this program for approximately 17 years to write papers, create numeric templates, articles, and outlines. I have incorprated tables from MS Excel, and know how to manipulate the properties of a document.

Photography

I have taken photographs with a 35 mm camera, digital camera, and cell phone camera. I've developed my own black and white photographs and have manipulated images digitally. I also won a few photography awards in a local contest.

Public Speaking

I have a Masters in Education, and a Juris Doctorate Degree. Both required a substantial amount of public speaking exercises. I have delivered oral presentations and speeches to students, classmates, juries, and judges.

Study Skills

I have a B.A., M.A. in Education, and a J.D. I have used several time management and organization techniques to help me complete assignments and tasks efficiently. I also worked while I was in school, and could share my tips with students to help them achieve more in less time.

Swimming

I swam competitively for 9 years. I learned a number of dry land and water exercises to help me prepare for swimming competitions. I also taught swimming lessons, was a lifeguard, and coached a swim team.

Writing

I earned a Bachelor's degree from UCLA and majored in American Literature, minored in Education, and completed a specialization in the Diversified Liberal Arts.

I also completed a Master's degree at Cal State LA in Education, with an emphasis on Curriculum and Instruction.

I recently earned a law degree from Drexel University in Pennsylvania.

My goal is to facilitate students' learning, not to write their papers. I discuss the entire writing process with my students, and provide detailed and thorough feedback on their papers to help them improve their writing skills.

Great GRE Review Maricruz built my confidence by showing me how to read the quantitative questions. First search for what the question is asking and answer it. Take my time with the questions. I was so excited after our first meeting, I went home and studied the quantitative practice questions with a little more confidence. Thank you Maricruz! ...
