I have never actually been an official tutor unless you count the times in 6th grade when I went to a 2nd grade classroom to help the students with their reading. I have, however, helped countless friends and classmates with homework and test prep, including study groups. My 4 younger siblings have also benefited in one way or another from my tutoring. I believe that there is more than one way to approach a problem or come to a conclusion. I believe that it is my job as your tutor to offer that alternative method because if the original method wasn't working for you, you wouldn't need me.
I believe that you are never too old to learn something new. I watch Jeopardy daily and I love to read and watch every version of the Discovery channel. When I meet a new student I like to get to know them a little before we go right to tutoring. What are you struggling with? What are your goals for school? Life? What studying methods have you found that work for you? That don't work for you? To me, this is more than just a job; it is an opportunity to truly help individuals get a little farther than they would have gotten on their own.
