Anatomy

I currently teach Anatomy and Physiology at the college level to general education and medical students. I believe I have the knowledge and ability to tutor K-12 and college students in this subject.

ASVAB

As a Senior Enlisted veteran of the Armed Forces, I have counseled several potential recruits in the processes involved with the ASVAB. I have intimate knowledge of the exam and I can help potential applicants prepare for the exam.

Biology

I currently teach medical sciences to college students in a vocational setting. As on of three faculty currently accredited for this subject, I feel confident that I can handle this subject matter.

Business

I have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, A Master's Degree in Business Administration and Health Care Management. I have owned and managed two businesses. I have tutored several classmates and students in several subjects such as economics, statistics, business law, etc.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been an instructor in private education for the past three years. I have helped several K-6 students that are home-schooled achieve age appropriate levels of education. I am infinitely patient and have many tools to help young people learn.

Elementary Science

My undergraduate work was in physical sciences. As an instructor in a private college, I provided instruction that involved physics, biology, chemistry, and anatomy and physiology.

GED

I have helped children and adults from all walks of life learn. I have tools and techniques that are unique and I take an individual approach to each situation. I have been an instructor in private education for several years, and I have helped several students that are home-schooled achieve age appropriate levels of education. I am infinitely patient and have many tools to help people learn.

General Computer

I have been using computers since 1983. My first encounter was with an Apple Basic computer where I learned to use Apple Basic language. I purchased a Color-Computer and learned basic programming in Color Basic. I purchased my first DOS computer in 1985 and taught myself DOS. I have continued to work with computers since then and have learned the basics of hardware configuration, software applications and various programming languages.

Grammar

I possess a Master's Degree. During the six years I invested in my, I have progressively improved my grammatical skills.

In my occupation I recognize the importance of using correct grammar in speech and in writing.

As a college instructor, I insist that assignments submitted for grade be written in the English language, that spelling is accurate, that the correct wording is utilized, and that the documents be grammatically correct.

Microsoft Excel

I have been using the Microsoft suite of applications for at least 10 years. I attended one of the first on-line university campuses and Office was a requirement. I have learned the tricks and shortcuts that make learning more about these products fun.

Microsoft Outlook

I have been using Outlook for over 10 years. I have experience in setting up Outlook in a WLAN system. I use the advanced settings regularly to configure Outlook and Outlook Express to accommodate multiple email servers.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I attended undergraduate and graduate school on-line. In order to make my presentations to my instructors, I had to become familiar with PowerPoint.

As a college instructor and an instructor for FEMA, Homeland Security, and other organizations, I utilize PowerPoint to have my lessons ready and to keep track of notes, etc.

NCLEX

I am a College Level Health Care Instructor where I have facilitated student learning in Practical Nursing, Certified Nursing Assisting, EMT Paramedic, Medical Assisting, Medical Office Administration, Pharmacy, and Medical Insurance, Billing, and Coding program areas.

This instruction is provided through a variety of methodologies, types of assessment, and within an environment conducive to student success.

Nursing

Over the last thirty years I have taught nursing, medical, clinical laboratory, and EMS subjects in the public and private post-secondary setting. Specific strengths are Anatomy and Physiology, Terminology, Healthcare Communications, Computer Applications, Clinical and Laboratory Procedures, Pharmaceutical Calculations, and phlebotomy.

Pharmacology

As an instructor at a College, I was a primary instructor for Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical calculations. The class helped students acquire basic knowledge of pharmacology and drug dosage calculations. The pharmacology component included drug classifications, action/kinetics, side effects, drug interactions, and desired outcomes. Dosage calculations emphasized the use of Roman numerals, percents, ratios, metric conversions, apothecary, and household measurement systems.

Public Speaking

As Deputy Director of a Government Agency I was responsible for addressing various Boards of Directors, County Commissioners, City Officials, Health Agency Administrators, as well as members of the public.

As an instructor and lecturer in a private college, I addressed large and small audiences regularly. I participated in debate and I taught presentations and public speaking.

QuickBooks

I began using this product when it was first provided free by the banks in 1986; at the time it was called Quicktime. I have utilized the program to manage my personal and business accounts since that time. I have also helped new business owners start using QuickBooks to manage their businesses.

Reading

I have been an instructor in private education for the past three years. I have helped several K-6 students that are home-schooled achieve age appropriate levels of education. I am infinitely patient and have many tools to help young people learn.

Study Skills

I have completed two college degrees online. I have had to home-school myself in all of the subject matter presented and I completed the programs with a 3.86 GPA. I taught six units a semester and I was very hands on in the process. I look for and find various study methods that seem to work for the different personalities I encounter.

TOEFL

I have been around the world, and I have met with and made friends of people from many different cultures and ethnicities. I make it a point to learn from them, and I'm sure most of them have learned from me. In m many cases, I have helped people from other cultures learn English as a Second Language and have been able to get them ready to take the TOEFL.

Writing

The APA (American Psychological Association) Formatting Style is a set of rules developed to assist reading comprehension in the social and behavioral sciences. It is designed to ensure clarity of communication and is designed to "move the idea forward with a minimum of distraction and a maximum of precision." (American Psychological Association, 2010)

The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association contains the rules for every aspect of writing, especially in the social sciences from determining authorship to constructing a table to avoiding plagiarism and constructing accurate reference citations. Students may find information and assistance on APA Formatting in the Learning Resource Center or by searching the internet for the terms “APA Format”, “APA Referencing”, or “American Psychological Association Style.”

As Faculty at Private College providing instruction in sciences, I required my students to submit all papers in APA format.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
