I tutor mainly on pre-calculus, calculus AB and BC.

It is an easy job to give the correct answers directly to students. I prefer something better than that. I guide them to find the correct answers by themselves. So when they are in the test or exam, they can solve any problems. I explain to them the concepts and knowledge requirements behind each of the exercises. What they are all about. How we should tackle the problems. How we are going to break down the big problem into some pieces and apply which techniques to solve them. Calculus is all about making plans and ready to use appropriate techniques and correct formulas. For example, to solve integration problems, we should know which types of the problems are. Is it trigonometry or algebra or rational functions? If it is a trigonometric function, what do we know about it? Do we know sin^2(x) + cos^2(x) = 1? It is too basic to apply directly to the problem. Then we need to know how to change or convert the basic formulas to something like cos2x = 2cos^2(x) - 1 or 2cos^2(x) = cos(2x) + 1. Then we could integrate it directly or integrate by parts.

In short, I am currently a Software Engineering graduate student at San Jose State University. I got the AMATYC award (American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges). To me, tutoring calculus is one of my hobbies so I tutor students with passion.

Great Tutor — Khoa is a great tutor for Pre-Calculus. He has a good approach to make sure the learning foundation is in place and was able to get my daughter caught up in her class. This is the first time we have used a tutor and are very happy we did. ...
