Biostatistics

I have taught graduate and undergraduate statistics courses. I will provide several examples of biostatistical analyses in published papers. In my 1978 and 1979 collaborations with Barbara Henker and Carol Whalen, I used analyses of variance and correlational analysis of observer ratings and behavioral observations (using a behavioral observation system we devised) of hyperactive children. In 1984 Lois Mintz and I used analyses of variance on data generated from the observation of video tapes

In a number of my papers l, present results of test construction and the psychometric analyses of questionnaire data. These include: (1) My 1973 and 1974 papers analyzing the Rotter internal-external control scale; (2) My 1990 collaboration with Gant Marshal using factor analyses and structural equation modeling to compare two multidimensional health locus of control instruments; (3) My 1997 collaboration with Marie Helweg-Larsen developing the frequently used UCLA Multidimensional Condom Attitudes Scale; (4) My 1997 collaboration with Donna Castaneda examining the structure and activities of agencies providing HIV and AIDS education and prevention to Latina/Latino communities. In this paper, we used a telephone interview that we devised, (5) My 2009 collaboration with Bowen Chung and community partners (published in the American Journal of Public Health) was a community-based collaborative research project that involved extensive tutoring o the community partners so that they could be involved in the design and data analyses component of the research project. Factor analyses and structural equation modeling were used in the statistical analyses.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
