Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, my passion for photography began mid-way through my college career.
Within two weeks of my first photo class, I knew this would be my chosen avocation & profession.
Graduating from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Photography led to exploring the natural landscape as the primary content of my images. So began my study of traditional black & white photography from f/64 West Coast photographers Ansel Adams, Brett Weston, Don Worth & John Sexton.
An avid backpacker since childhood, I combined my love for the outdoors with the emotional pursuit of my visual expression through the natural landscape. Color photography eventually superseded my black and white and is now my main source of image making.
My passion for the craft of photography led to a studio apprenticeship in San Francisco. Learning lighting technique, composition and styling as a freelance assistant for 24 different photographers in retail catalog, advertising, food, fashion, architectural, hi-tech and editorial studios provided strong resources to draw upon when confronted with new lighting situations that require creative solutions.
This invaluable experience was put to practical use as a seasoned photographer shooting for Macy*s, Cost Plus World Market, Clorox, Bare Escentuals & Mervyns. I rely on the many little bits of knowledge that constitute the tricks-of-the-trade to shot both fast and with a good measure of quality. This knowledge also extends to the proper use, care and maintenance of equipment.
Long employed as a Digital Product Photographer, and passionate about photographing the natural landscape, I possess the talent, a good eye for light, and a wide variety of skills to shoot most anything presented. I continue to hone my technical skill, develop my eye for light, and express my sense of beauty in the world we live in.
