If your child is experiencing difficulty in decoding words or making pictures from text; I am trained in Lindamood-Bell Reading programs; LIPS, Seeing Stars, Visualizing and Verbalizing, and Reading Recovery. Phonemic awareness, symbol imagery, comprehension and guided reading are the building blocks. Reading is making meaning using these building blocks.
Making meaning of math begins in the concrete before the abstract labels are applied. I provide hands-on instruction that lead to a thorough understanding of number sense, addition/subtraction, multiplication/division, algebra and beginning concepts for calculus. Abstract concepts are made plain using math manipulatives and Mortensen Math.
I have experience working with special needs: auditory processing issues, spectrum, dyslexia, hyperlexia, etc. If you remediate weakness, you must also identify strengths. I also am available for IEP consultations to advocate for what is best for your child in the school system.
