I began my teaching career tutoring English in a high-needs charter school in Boston, Mass. After helping my students with research, writing, and editing, every one of my students passed their final exam with a 90% or better.
I next looked for a tutoring opportunity that would let me dedicate myself to just a few students to have the greatest influence possible. I found this opportunity as a member of the Great Oaks Charter School Tutor Corps in Newark, New Jersey (August 2011 - April 2012). As a full-time tutor, I worked with two small groups of middle school students teaching every core subject, including reading, writing, math, science, history, and art history. My secondary responsibilities included substituting, creating learning materials for the math and writing programs, and coaching the school debate and soccer teams.
After that, I decided to earn my master's degree in teaching from the well-regarded Curry School at the University of Virginia (ranked 8th in the nation), which is designed to produce the most committed, organized, and engaging social studies teachers in the country. In May, 2014, I finally earned my master's degree and teaching license and am finally ready to lead my own classroom.
Though I majored in economics, Vassar fulfilled its role as a liberal arts institution by teaching me how to write, edit, and think critically just as ably as I can calculate a country's trade deficit. Whatever your academic needs, if you want a dedicated, energetic tutor who puts the student's achievement over all else, please contact me any time with requests or inquiries.
